Im back on the Ultra-X since im too lazy to try and figure out a solution for the Microsoft. And i changed my mouse from the Logitech MX518 to a Razer Copperhead laser mouse, its fits my hand better and its smmetrical so its great for lefties, and it doesnt emit any kind of whine like my Logitechs and microsofts did. And it looks very cool in Anarchy Red Mine is number 2048 of 10 000 First Edition mices(very important fact )

Well this isnt a plug for a keyboard or a mouse....but rather a mousepad. I know...some people want a completely silent keyboard and a mouse that doesnt click....but this $7 mousepad will at least make the mouse movement as close to silent as you will get and still give you the accuracy you need. For people who really really like a near frictionless mousepad, this is not for you...but everyone should at least try it. I bought an Icemat today and I paid $40 for it. I think I will take it back and get a couple of these others and pocket the savings. I bought this for a gift for my mom, but of course had to try it myself.

I used to use the original Ulti-Mat wich is a steel plate covered with teflon, ad teflon feet to your mouse and the mouse moves when you blow at it It wasnt very quiet though, so now im using a Ulti-Mat Breathe, its a fabric mat available in four sizes(up to 450x550mm ) and imo its great. I can still make my mouse move just by blowing at it, its very quiet and evn though its very thin it still adds some comfort And besides the steel pad was pretty damn cold
And its not even expensive, about 6€ for the smallest one and 16€ for the largest one wich is HUGE! Highly recommended

I can't find any place in the US that carries the Breathe version, do you know of any vendors that will ship to the US?nici wrote:I used to use the original Ulti-Mat wich is a steel plate covered with teflon, ad teflon feet to your mouse and the mouse moves when you blow at it It wasnt very quiet though, so now im using a Ulti-Mat Breathe, its a fabric mat available in four sizes(up to 450x550mm ) and imo its great. The quest continues, for a reasonably quiet quality keyboard.
I tried the Micro-Innovations KB750f, this one is silent, very silent and the worst, by far ,KB I have ever tried.. I think the Grandtec is the same - both are inexpensive, but not worth it..
In this area, semi-rural SE PA, there are no true computer stores that I know of. Radio Shack ? Too little, too small..

I believe the Logitech UltraFlat is available under another brand in the US.
saw this pic over at HardOCP.

It has a black on silver theme and has a few multimedia buttons which the Logitech version lacks.

That's the Labtec Ultra-Flat, what I've heard Labtec is connected to Logitech, some claims that Labtec is Logitechs value brand and I've tried to get this confirmed but never managed to.
Got to say I just love my Saitek Eclipse Keyboard. It still makes a tap, when you press the keys, but it's a nice a subtle tap. Just like closing the door in a Mercedes.
Then the keyboard has the blue light feature, which some like and others dont. Looks pretty cool IMHO.
I can't find a test site that doesn't think it's a superb keyboard. I actully found this keyboard myself, while looking for a quite keyboard, since the girlfriend complained about my tapping. No complains since I changed to the Saitek Eclipse.

Loud Mouse
I've been searching for the perfect mouse for years and I finally found one that's everything and more... except for the click. Just when I thought my search was over a family member showed up at my door at 2AM to ask me "what the h___ is that clicking sound!!!" A minute later I had the thing apart and was determined to fix the problem - hopefully without killing my $100 investment.
The problem, as you have also found, is that pesky little black switch - the open space and thin plastic doesn't help either. After using several forms of stick on substances I did find this combination to help: 1) first I sprayed the underside (including click buttons) with a few coats clear gloss paint - this seemed to dampen the acoustic echo - possibly by softening the plastic - whatever it did it helped. 2) The use of foam mounting tape in key areas as well as the use of adhesive backed felt in larger open spaces was added but kept a safe distance from circuitry.
The end result was a muffled click that still isn't quiet, but better. My last resort will be to construct a small foam lined box which I'm sure will be in the way and in the trash by the end of the week. With any luck someone will have a better suggestion.
I don't remember hearing such loud mouse sounds come from older models, but then again the decibel level in a work environment is a lot different than the pin drop silence I'm dealing with now. Ultimately, I'd use my Wacom tablet but unfortunately the KVM switch doesn't supply enough power to operate it. It would be so nice to buy something - just once - that you didn't have to modify.

A mouse designed for silence
Anyone tested or has the Sharkoon Luminous Mediaboard?

I wonder how is the build quality compared to UltraX and also if the letters on the keys are laser printed or just painted over. If they are painted over, like on most black keyboards -ultrax included- than they are prone to wash away in time after use...

I really like my dinovo keyboard. The laptop keys have a much better sound than typical keys. Mine is the non-bluetooth version. Some ebay sellers have refurbished ones for $100 less than their retail price. I bought mine from one of these sellers 2 months ago, and it's a very nice upgrade from my logitech mx keyboard. The mouse that comes with it is very cheap compared with the laser mouse shipping with the bluetooth version, but, I use a G7, which isn't necessarily silent, but, very very responsive.
I've been using the THANKO keyboard and mouse for 1 week now and just love it.......the bottom line is this is the quietest keyboard and mouse on the market by FAR.....you cannot hear anything when using either....so there is a small price to pay......getting used to where some US keys are located since it is a Japanese keyboard...after 3 days I was all set....and the spacebar is fine unless you are cross-eyed.marcvip wrote:I purchased the Thanko keyboard and mouse...we'll see how they perform.

Have had a quick scan though most of the pages, haven't seen anything similar but sorry if this has already been covered..
What about those projection/virtual keyboards (one here)?
I guess they might be horrid to type on but would be very quiet if you projected them onto a reasonably soft surface. Maybe you could etch out a template on a surface following the projected divisions and/or adding dots to "keys" to make typing a bit easier and more tactile. Don't know how accurate they are though even if you do hit in the right spot.
(Also maybe worth trying although less modifiable touch screen type keyboards?)

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted on this topic.
I've been looking for a quiet keyboard for years, and this was the most informative page I found.
Another helpful forum listed many of the same keyboards touted here.

And finally, for the PSK-5000, I wrote to them and they gave this site which sells it for much less than Greenlaptop.com, and with more choices of color.

Thanks again.

FWIW, it's still available here in the US:Overconfidence wrote:Hmmm.
Does anyone know where to find the PSK-5000 in Canada? I really want the UltraX, but it seems to have been discontinued (Confirmation?!).
