Best Silent/Cool Fan for Thermalright SLK-800A Heatsink

Post by dr150 » Tue Jun 10, 2003 4:53 pm

As I understand it, the Thermalright SLK-800A heatsink is one of the best performing heatsinks to mate my AMD 1800 chip (and any chip for that matter).

I'm trying to make my case as quiet as possible. I bought the Silenx 400w PSU and my chip temp. went up from 55c to 60c! This caused the alarm to go off.

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A SILENT/COOL FAN FOR THE Thermalright SLK-800A and Case fans just in case I'll need one in the future if I can't reduce my temp with this new heatsink.

Thanks............

+++ BTW, what's the best place for price/service to buy such gear?..........

Panaflo L1A's.

For both.

It's really that simple.

Quiet, relatively inexpensive, and excellent quality and reliability.

I've got an 80mm L1A on an SLK-800 on my Xp2100+. I've got mine OC'd to 2.0Ghz and the temp maxes out at 42°C

EDIT: If you're in the US, Directron.com is a pretty good place to get 'em.

I just got some at All Electronics (US) -- cheap: $4.50 + shipping (thanks, Ralf):

I hate to sound like a broken record but for your CPU the L1A Panaflo should be the way to go. If you end up needing a little more airflow look into the Panaflo M1A instead. L1As for your case fans is the way to go too.

For me what has worked the best for cooling/noise ratio has been a 120mm fan with a 120->80mm adapter (you need to come up with a way to attach the adapter to the nonstandard SLK-800 fan retention mechanism).

However I've only tested it with Papst fans to this date and will try my Panaflo fans (80 and 120mm) to see which produces a more silent cooling.

The Papst ones I've tried haven't been particularly silent even inside a damped case at 5 volts.

regards,
Halcyon

ANybody have any experience with the new crop of Slinx case/cpu fans which they say on their website that "Panaflow and Papst have *nothing on them!" ?....................
