PC watercooling with Passive radiator Article

Just wanted to link this incase someone wanted to look at it. I havent read it yet but I saw the first picture in the article and it looked like someone here might get some ideas from it. so here it is

well this is not quite as extreme as the guy that dug a 200l reservoir 3m underground :O, but this is still a major project!

If the objective is just to reduce (or eliminate) noise, with theradiator located in a different room (the garage), why worry about making it passive? Seems like he could have saved himself some trouble and use a more compact (and efficient) radiator with a fan that kicks in when water temperature rises above a threshold.

By the way, Tom's Hardware has a review of a water cooling unit by Corsair. It's a separate unit from the case, with quick release hose connectors. Even the reviewer there finds it noisy, so it definitely will not make the cut here, but if you're locating it behind a wall in another room...

Before you get too excited about about that Corsair unit you may want to read the review of it at [H]ardOCP: Corsair Hydrocool 200

Although they test the same processor, a 3.0Ghz P4, [H] gets test results that are nearly 20°C higher!

And considering what a total lack of credibility Tom's has developed of late, and the fact that the whole review reads like an advert for their sponsors, I think I'd trust the [H]ardOCP boys more. The reviews on Tom's are almost as objective as a sales pitch on the Home Shopping Channel.

Just to let you know that the massive copper pipe water radiator features on the OCers article is in a garage of a house in the Vancouver area

I spoke at length with Ron today. He says SPCR was a great source of info for him as he developed his PC, and he's agreed to work with me on an article focused more on noise aspects of his system performance. Some further silencing work on his system is coming, and then you'll be able to read about it all here.

The latter. I could tell he was in Vancouver -- the references to West Coast city and to the heat wave in early June gave him away. I was cooking in this office with 2 19" monitors and 2 PCs on those days. I emailed him and gave him my number, he called, we had a long chat.

I watercool passively (fanless). Works like a charm.
I use two "dual fan" Senfu radiators (with fans removed).
I had no problem cooling a KT333 northbridge, an AMD 1900+ and a Radeon 9700 pro (=~150W), highest water temp = 44°C, lowest = 37°C.

i ran a tec, maze2-2 and one of my rads earlier, water graduly warmed up but took a few hours, i may end up using a fan on my sys, but maybe i can find a very quiet 120mm or something to pull air thru the rad
oh and i got frost on the cold plate

Get a bigger radiator? I've thought of getting a big copper oil cooler or just a simple car radiator...

yeah ive got another really big radiator, and a mid sized one also...

and some small ones too
by mid sized i think it would take 3 120mm fans
