Sorry, you are looking from too far away. They are adressing both a different problem as I pointed out above. Therefore it is not usefull to compare them.

You have a box with a big opening in the bottom were air gets blown in. A big opening in the back as the only significant place were it can leave. Yes, they all have a problem with dead spots. That's simple geometry. On top of that take a look at some power supplies from different manufacturers. The components are all placed approximately in the same place.

Your first post claims the zalman uses the same pcb layout as the 80mm fsp models. Your last post claims all psu layouts are essentially the same anyway. You don't seem to have a consistent point of view.

Your last post completely makes no sense.

In my first post I stated that 80mm fanned PSU's and 120mm use the same PCB's. If you got any capacity for comprehensive reading, you see that in that post I am talking about the SIZE of PCB's. I didn't use the name of fsp at all. Simply because this is true for the majority of the PSU's on the market.

This is in no way contradictory with the fact that in 120mm fannned PSU's the components are all placed approximately in the same place ON the PCB.

It looks like you are searching for things to disagree with me, while there are no good ones to find.

FSP Epsilon 700W

The placement of components in these two power supplies are not approximately in the same place. They don't use the same components and they don't use the same heatsinks.

As I can see, the heatpipe assembly only extends the rightmost heatsink (the hottest spot in an Epsilon), probably to level it's temperature with two other sinks at the same aiflow (normally they are about 10C cooler). In other words it's an improved version of FSP's original extension (thick alu plate bolted to the PSU case), nothing more.

P.S. Fins are spaced too closely .

If somebody makes generalisations, it is always possible to find an example were the generalisation doesn't hold true. That doesn't make the generalisation invalid or useless.

I almost got carried away... Sure, it will have a 140mm fan, with blindingly bright red leds naturally, running at a fixed speed of 3400RPM, with an initial start-up voltage of 14V to make it really howl at start-up. The power cables will also glow in the dark, and all connectors have an autograph and a mugshot of this FataliTy1! guy, obviously the autograph and his eyes are blinking too, in red. It also comes with it's own external power-supply to power the lights. It also has a big, red, blinking button on the the case of the PSU, when you push it fataliTyYt1 speaks in 1337!!!

*ahem* you forgot the mind-blowing, seizure-inducing BLINKIN RED LEDS OF DEWM!! Mwahaha !!

The last "feature" may not be economically (or common-sensibly) feasible, but they can add a button that raises the fan speed to make the fan growl and make the rig feel hardcore like some OCZ PSUs. Heck, throw in the overvoltage options.
Then when the game is playing, player pushes button so computer can get extra juice out of PSU for the increased load, telling others that their PSUs are inferior and going to blow up soon. The button also serves as self-destruct which forces a draw when needed, sometimes it is auto. Nobody blames PSU because it has f4+aL!+y brand on it, player can then boasts that his com is too superior and powerful.

Based on that it seems to be a decent PSU, wich is to be expected, but that review does not explain how much good the heatpipe thingie does.

Now if they would have just tested it!
Power draw of their test machine is such light that using that to say anything about effectiveness of cooling or stability of rails is completely irrelevant. Even GPU is extremely low end model, at least they could have used ATI's top end cards!

Another review at Tech ARP. Eh -- wimpy "reveiw", and their sample had a small dent.

It does include a 12v/5v 3-pin fan connector (woo-hoo!), and it might be made by Fortron Source:

They don't open it up either -- or even use it in a system...
