Motherboard for Celeron M380

Post by iccb » Tue Nov 07, 2006 6:04 am

Hello!
I would like to know what motherboard works with celeron M380 processor. Anyone can help? :)
I would use them with home linux server, so integrated graphics are fine.
Is there any cheap board for that? Or can U suggest another cheap and energy effient processor and motherboard.
Thanks all!

Socket 754 Sempron 3000+ any mobo w/ onboard GFX (preferably VIA or SiS). I use Foxconn 760GXK8MC-RS.

Unfortunately there aren't many choices. Currently at newegg, there are only two motherboards that support Dothan/Banis based Pentium/Celeron Ms. A full ATX AOpen with a fan on the northbridge, and a mini-ITX one. Neither are terribly cheap. The only "cheap" one I've ever seen is the MSI 915GM Speedstar FA4R. It was going for about $80 as "open box". But that was probably because it had lots of issues and didn't work well. I had been looking at the AOpen i915GMm-HFS. NewEgg has some of those "open box" for around $100 at one time. But now they're out. About $180 is the best I can find now.

It's too bad. The celeron M is a good CPU..... just not for laptops. It would make a great low-powered desktop PC.

Thanks to all!
I think I forget that celeron processor and by socket 754 mb and sempron64 2800+.
Any ideas how much that is going to take power?
There's only 40gb harddisk and 512 or 1024mb ram.
Any ideas?
I'm just a noob concerning these power stuff. :)

Edit:Hmm, 3000+ and above semprons only support C'n'Q, am I right?

With such a minimal setup, I'd be amazed if it drew more than 60W at idle.

Yes, correct. CnQ is important for power-saving.

Oooo, I just came across the Shuttle XPC SD11GS at Directron. Sounded familiar. And sure enough, SPCR reviewed it. They have it for $260 with a $60 rebate from Shuttle. That's not sounding too bad. A sempron system would still be cheaper. But this is tempting me. (No must not spend money.....)

Shuttle would be cool, but little too expensive. That model cost in Finland about 385 € (~493$).
