An idea to try to make a silent pc:
Put one/a couple flexible fanducts:
60mm http://www.gtek.net/produkt/ftillbehor/ ... 0.shtml
or 80mm http://www.gtek.net/produkt/ftillbehor/cm2050.shtml
(the 60mm fanduct with an 80mm fan and a 80mm > 60mm adapter.
Put them inside the front of the case sucking in cold air, leading it to:

A) Geforce4/Other HIGH W graphicscard fanless heatsink
B) CPU fanless heatsink
C) Fanless PSU (from inside)

If one makes this to only A and B, maybe C isnt needed - enough cold air is in the box.
Even if you use one for C, you can use 3 80mm fans running at very low V/speed since the air is cold - making the system VERY VERY quiet/totally silent with the case closed!??

I think if you have none or small/few ventilation holes in your chassi, the overpressure in the case will FORCE much of the incoming air to go out through the PSU, resulting in only two lowspeed 80mm fans in the entire system!

This of course require a nice heatsink on the cpu Zalman CNPS5100-Cu/CNPS5100-Cu (pictures at http://www.zalman.co.kr/english) and a nice heatsink on the GPU - maybe ZALMAN ZM17CU or even enough with the zalman chipsetfan ZM-NB32J (see pictures)

Anyone else know a better heatsink?

I have a Zalman AL-CU heatsink with a 92mm fan hanging freely above the hs blowing on it at 40cfm/20dba, and i have a AXP 1800+. This is in ambient case temperature EXCEEDING 36°C! the fan is blowing 36°C warm air at 40cfm and cpu temp is 49°C. I beleive a fanduct blowing room-temperature ~22°C at 20cfm would be sufficient. The same goes with the geforce4 ti4200.
IF this works, the still relatively cold air and the overpressure by 2*20cfm fans sucking IN air should be sufficient to cool down the PSU with the "tunnel" configuration described in http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.p ... &page=4

Papst 8412NGL is 12dba @ ~19cfm . If two of these are enough, we have a system using only 2*12dba. Imagine.... wouldnt even have to isolate the case! could have it open and still almost silence!

Please reply you thoughts!

I like the idea of ducting cool air from outside directly at the hot spots of the case (low speed fans) but I do not think this outward air pressure would keep the psu cool with minimal vents as all the heat generated in the case doesn't just dissapear or stay cool to go through the psu, not to mention the pressure won't be great enough that the air will be flowing that fast over the psu heatsinks. I think a psu fan is still needed. Also, minimizing fan noise still leaves the hdd to deal with. Its pretty easy to get fans quiet enough that silencing the hdd becomes the problem. I've already spent 3 months or more with the loudest thing in my computer being the hdd, I now have it sandwitched and suspended (not to mention surrounded by brown bread sound daming mat) and it is still the focus of my attention in making my system more quiet. I have a barracuda IV 80gb so the prevention method is about as good as its going to get short of solid state disk space. Perhaps going for seagates 5400rpm U6 will lower noise just a bit more, but I still think hdd will be my noise enemy for a LONG time.
