Strange problem XP wont boot past splash screen

Post by GamingGod » Fri Dec 22, 2006 4:26 pm

The other day the computer would not get past the splash screen. There was no new hardware or software at all. I went in and set bios back to default and it booted up fine. The question is, what caused this in the first place and if I turn it off is it going to do it again?

Overclocking can and will cause all sorts of problems, the one that you have juste mentioned is a classic problem. XP is more sensetive to overclocking than many programs are, and if your PDC wont even load windows, you have pished something too far.

The last time I had a go at overclocking I destroyed Windows, and had to totally re-install it.......... oops

I dont have it overclocked but my asus p4p800 trys to auto overclock it sometimes. It pisses me off because Ill set it to manual but sometimes it gets back to auto or whatever by itself. I never figured that out. I have the newest bios for it installed.
