New to this forum and i have just finished mine HTPC project
an celeronD 2,93ghz w asus p5p800s mobo and watercooling and
much more it is almost finished just a few small things need to be done,
But now im looking for some way to start my computer at an specific time
like an alarmclock and interface it to the powerbutton thru an transistor or
an optocoupler any of you out there have any ideas of an timer start an computer except mine idea could use wake on lan to etc...

I haven't tried this and it looks like it may not be very flexible. I noticed setting for "Power On By RTC Alarm" in my BIOS(Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe). Maybe your mobo has something similar. It should work for a one-time event, but it seems like it might be alot of effort required by multiple events for a PVR.

Ummm...ya know...you get that for free with Windows Media Center 2005 (as long as you put your computer into Suspend or Hibernate mode). If you are running MCE 2005, just enable Hibernate in your Power Options and make sure that ACPI is set to S3 in your BIOS and you should be good to go.
