Nice pics! Is that scotch tape in there? Might want to use electrical tape instead, since scotch tape will get brittle, and might crack and fall off.

Thanks!

Yes you're right, it's scotch tape. I will try to see if I can find something better.

The PSU is still runing, after 12H :)

That kind of tape would only be a problem longer term - like weeks & months.

What exactly did you wire into the PSU?

he wired the red+black wires of the fan together with the red+black wires connected to the PCB.

Can you do this with any red wire coming from the PCB? It looks like it would sap power from another molex.

Sorry for the newbie question. I would like to do this mod on a Sparkle 200W mATX. :(

Ah, nothing like hardwiring a fan to +5v to prevent it from ramping up, ever!

My Sparkle PSU has a simple Protechnic 12v fan. Are you saying it won't work in my case? But if it didn't work, I could just hardwire back to the original spot?

No, I wasn't replying to your post, but the original post. This modification can work on any PSU.

There are basically two schools of thought on fan noise. Some people prefer temperature controlled fans which run at the minimum speed/noise required at any given time. Others, like myself, prefer constant speed fans which never ramp up in speed (which is more noticeable than a constant low hum).
