Anyone else using a PS3?

Post by raymanxp » Sun Mar 25, 2007 9:17 pm

Hi all, I took a break from folding for a while b/c of the energy that was being sucked up for few of my PCs.

Now that firmware 1.6 is out for the PS3, it renewed my interest to fold again. Looking at the F@H site, there's about 300k+ PS3s running F@H.
I'm jus curious if any other members of our team is running their PS3, and duration everyday.

the CELL is remarkable crunch the WUs, 8hrs/unit.

Yep, at least one member of the SPCR Folding@Home team that I'm certain is doing some number crunches on the PS3... that is, me.

I've had my PS3 up and running for the last couple of days 24/7 just to see how it'd handle being at full load for a longer period of time, and I see no real trouble with that. It's been crunching away happily, the fan speed on my PS3 has risen a notch so it isn't silent anymore, but a lot less noisy than any Xbox360 that I've heard. Now I'm living in the northern part of Sweden so the ambient temps in my room isn't the highest which probably helps keeping the PS3 cool enough. 23 work units finished in total thus far in the 3-4 days that it's been working.

especially impressive considering the PS3 WUs are the biggest, hardest ones!

How much does that equate to in points money?

Good question, I haven't really kept track of my points before and after... according to the stats at folding.extremeoverclocking.com I seem to keep myself at around 1200p / 24 hours on average while it's been running. Now, I also have a 1600MHz Sempron chewing 24/7 and my main rig is also running folding on both cores while it's up (at least 12 hours a day) so they're probably sending in some WU now and then too.

Hmm, seems I might've lost track of time.. 23 WU's in 5 days sounds more like it. Earlier then those dates have only sporadic WU's turned in. :)

date / points / WUs
04.18.07 / 1,334 / 5
04.17.07 / 1,153 / 4
04.16.07 / 891 / 3
04.15.07 / 1,486 / 5
04.14.07 / 1,157 / 4

hey macke, 1200p / 24 is pretty impressive!
my ps3 has been almost on almost 24/7 since the update. Perhaps a few days of rest at most in total.
I'm also running F@H on my athlon64 2.0ghz, but i only avg 800-900p / 24 :?:

well, it's good to see a fellow ps3 folders on this team :D
But once better games are available, folding would be a second thought
