my advice for any type of drive suspension is to look north. it'll be a lot easier to use small bungee cords [the really little ones] hooked onto screws that are partly screwed into the holes on the underside of the drive. clean, effective, and its got plenty of life for it. don't use rubber bands, especially for 3.5" drives, and also, make sure theres lots of tension. lastly, make sure you're grounded. any static caused by anything could kill a drive or another component...if you get a large enough charge [although extremely rare, you get to see what it looks like when electricity bridges until it can ground. no, it probably wont need the ground for anything, but keeping things grounded is important, dont trust the molex ground enough to let it be the only grounding method.

i checked the "suspension" tread and i couldn't see anyone that used a extra groundcable ..maybe i missed it tho ?

I'm pretty sure bonestonne meant grounding yourself while working. The hard drive is normally grounded by the ground wire in the power connection.

That's a cool cage but won't that still make a lot of noise during seek? The rubber is a good idea, but they're still solid materials, and will leak vibrations to the cage which would rattle against the case. You might want to switch up the rubber with sort of soft foam, or you could insulate the bars with some kind of foam and put the rubber over it.

i haven't got much time testing it yet. but i don't think this will be the the final version. if the seek noise is to high i will first try to change the Neoprene rubber. if that doesn't help i guess i have to try using some kind of rubbercord suspension.

edit : tested the system today. found out that S-FLEX 120mm wont move if i have the fanmate on low. and the hdd's still is making to much noise  i belive it's the "seek/write" noise that is most anoying

will some soft fome be enough to remove the anoing nosie or ?

Since that compucase is almost identical with Antec SLK3000B ( I have had 6A21 as one case before I got P-182B for my gaming rig), you easily can make rubber suspension, simply by removed that HDD cage and but HDD's in elastic thing hanging from 5,25" bay like I did. I used used Bike Innertube to make such HDD suspension.

i gotta find something else, that roundcore was to thick.
did you get rid of all noise when you mounted the HDD's like that ?

Hmm, sure looks like it should work OK...

Maybe ditch the aluminum cage entirely and suspend them the Aphonos way.

but how much noise will you hear, will it be absolute quiet or what ?
think my suspension remove something like ~50% of the noise.

Dunno, you'd have to try it. It's always worked well for me when using Samsung drives.

Here's my HDD noise remedy:

Image

Yesterday, I built my 4th "box". They kill seek noise completely, and since there's a 100mm spot-cooling fan inside between the two HDDs, I get to seal the front panel of the PC behind the bezel so no noise escapes to the user thru the front panel.

I use 1.5mm Stretch Magic to suspend the box. It weighs 4lb total, of which 2.5lb is the two HDDs. Eight strands of 1.5mm do the suspension, so that's 8oz per strand, a 32-1 safety factor over an 8lb test of one strand of 1mm SM that failed to break the SM! :D

I've always been polite to folks who use huge bungee cords to suspend itty bitty HDDs, and I'll continue that now.

artbeads.com doesn't even charge shipping - they just stick a stamp on an envelope and mail first class! No, I think your seek noise problem is there isn't anything to dampen and block the high frequency noise components being radiated mostly from the two sides of the HDDs. That's what the 3/16" rubber on the sides of my box(es) is for.

Yes, there's an awful lot of rubber around the HDDs, except for the open rear. They run quite cool, because of the 100mm spot-cooling fan that sits between them. Air is drawn in past the bottom HDD, and blown out past the top HDD. The bottoms of the HDDs are exposed to the airflow in each case.

I posted a lot more on these rubber boxes just over halfway down page 7 of the "show us your HDD suspension" sticky in this forum.

think it will be enough to put 10mm foamboard on the side of the hddcase ?

You seem to have excellent DIY skills. Give it a try and let us know the results, both on seek noise and HDD temperature!

My rubber box with internal spot cooling works so well for me that I've completely stopped experimenting in that area.

been thinking about making a copy of your rubberbox, but i can't find anyplace that sell neopreneboard in small pieces. im not sure if i gonna try the foamidea or start searching for some neoprene right now.

Sorry for late reply: Yes, only noise there is, is HDD's seek idle noise which is present in all soft mounts. But 0 Vibrations as long HDD doesn't touch super structure or fan.
