I looked through the "quiet mouse/keyboard" recommended thread, and read some testimonials, and came to the conclusion that yes i may be able to just buy a quieter mouse/keyboard but more than likely i will have to give somthing up in return. IE: Ergonomics, funky key positioning, not wireless, etc.

The biggest issue i have with trying to replace my keyboard/mouse, is that no one person has actually compared all these so called "quiet" mice/keyboard to each other, and as I've noticed, peoples "perception" of what is and is not quiet can vary greatly. So just because Joe X says its quiet doesn't mean I'll think its quiet.

As far as usability, and all, i love my current mouse/keyboard combo. Logitech LX700, but the key's on the keyboard are very clickety. Even if i don't push them all the way down, just touching them seems to make a loud "click". same thing with the primary 2 buttons on the mouse. the mouse-wheel is quiet though.

So I'd like to silence my keyboard/mouse if i can over buying a different one, because other than the clicks, i really like everything else about them.

The key's on the keyboard easily pop out, so maybe i can put something under them or something to quiet the keyboard?

The mouse seems like a more difficult task as i cant see from the outside any easy way to get access to the area under the primary two buttons, and even if i could, it seems like theres a lot less space under there to do something with than on the keyboard.

The clicking of keyboard keys is usually the result of the plastic of the keys hitting the plastic frame underneath. You could, in theory, put some sort of contact-preventing material there, but it would most likely lead to loss of precision and responsiveness. Better to get a spring-loaded keyboard with flat keys, such as the Logitech UltraX. No funky key placement, no extra gimmicks, but you will be sacrificing wireless. If you're keen on keeping your wireless, just browse your local selection for a laptop-style keyboard. They tap instead of clicking, but do try one out before buying. Typing out "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" should test all alphabet keys.

At least Logitech made non-clicking mice at one point, but users objected to not being able to tell when they had actually pressed the buttons, so the physical feedback was brought back. I'm guessing the clicking could be removed by removing the clicking parts, but it would most likely impair the buttons' ability to operate.

Edit: I was perhaps being too vague on the clicking. Those large, traditional keys are mounted in holes, and the fitting is usually loose. Thus even the slightest push will nudge the key around in its fitting, causing hard plastic surfaces to come into contact. Spring-loaded laptop keys are less prone to this, as the fitting and construction are better for quiet typing. A person's style of typing will account for some of the noise produced as well.

i´m wondering how to silencing my keyboard also as it´s very squeaky as you move, twist it or handle it when you put it on your lap...

it´s a plastic wireless natural keyboard
Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro
which suits my writing or gaming habits having it on my lap

...but as i prefer wireless and the natural keyboard style there are not any new ones from logitech, microsoft etc i may use this keyboard for some more years if there was some good method to make the plastic sound go away...

the keyboard must be sandwiched together making the plastic squeak as one twist the keyboard or just lifting it up

help appreciated

i wonder if they make like "rubber paint" or somthin, then i could just take all the key's out, "paint" the plastic where they hit each other, then put all the key's back. should dull the noise.

Yes, they do. I don't remember the specifics, but there's been a couple of threads about it. I think they were posted a few years ago though.
