At Jab-Tech. This is the first thin 120mm fan I've seen at the retail level. It is available in a low and medium speed version, both sleeve bearings. This fan opens up new possibilities for mounting a fan up front.....either inside the front bezel, or between the HD cage and the case. A little 5mm can make it possible. I ordered a couple of each....I'll report back when I test them. Order fast.....I'll bet they go quickly. :D

Will this fan fit in front of the lower hard drive bay of the P180?

You'll have to measure.....or maybe somebody with a P-180 can tell you. Usually Yate Loon specs are honest. That db spec for the low-speed version is impressive.

Dangman,

I got a standard D12SL-12 into the front of the lower HD bay in the P180, but only by drilling out the little bolts for that odd frame or cage thingie; that is, the one into which the flat thumbscrew to hold the cage in place screws. It was a VERY tight fit, such that I didn't even bother zip tying or otherwise securing the fan. Also couldn't use the air filter for that grille.

I have one P180 build with a SFF12D in it, no fitment issues with the frame into the middle of the chassis-- had to slide it in and lock it in... it didn't feel quite secure out of the case when the fan + frame were assembled, but installed, they were very secure.

Haven't tried to fit it into the front, but if a standard 25mm thick fits per Ryan's modifications you should be good.

I should fit in the lower front of the P180. I had to shave a few millimeters off the frame of a 25mm to make it fit (tight). 5mm should make a huge difference.

Yate Loons come in many forms, blade designs, motors, etc. And when you order a D12-SL-12 for instance, who knows what you'll get? My Yate Loons from Jab-Tech all come without a box.....indicating they were bought in large batch of 500 or more, maybe straight from YL. The labels, the blade design, the corners tell you nothing. My impression is that the name "Yate Loon" is used on any number of slightly different fans, made by a number of different companies, loosely conforming to a set of specs. These fans are cheap enough to buy a few from each retail outlet. And be sure to test the things before you stick them in a case.

That's a good thread in that last link......here's a quote.

"I wasn't calling Yate Loon Electronics Ltd. a mom and pop operation. Frequently, electronic component companies engage in electronic manufacturing outsourcing. Note that Yate Loon, the parent company, is actually a Taiwanese company based in Taoyuan County, which is based in the northern tip of Taiwan. Yate Loon is not a Chinese company and is not domiciled in PRC.

Almost all of the manufacturing on behalf of Yate Loon is based in South China. I can bet that some of the manufacturing is done by Foxconn/Hon Hai (again Taiwanese company operating mostly in Fujian and Guangdong provinces), and perhaps some by Flextronics and/or Solectron. Yet, I can bet that some of it is done by various local factories run by municipalities. Like I mentioned, each Chinese town has a town govt. that runs the local factories, which are managed by state enterprises.

Anyway, it is obvious to me that some of the straight vs. curved fans have different frames even for the same fan model number. This may indicate their manufacture in different factories operated by different company. "Direct from Yate" does not mean that the fans come from a factory with a company sign that says Yate Loon. Dittos for other overseas Chinese companies such as Creative.. you don't think your X-Fi is made in Singapore by Creative, do you? Dittos for Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, etc etc.

Once again, I am postulating that Yate Loon is a electronics trading and distributorship, and I am postulating that they resort mostly to contract manufacturing and not actual Yate Loon factories."

The 120x20mm fans I just got from Jab-Tech came without boxes....maybe they're the real thing. They look like it. Bluefront....
