i got my 120mm panaflo today but......

Post by hkgolden » Mon Nov 18, 2002 9:49 pm

when it is at 7v, it has ("cicicici" or "cececece" somthing like that) this noise come out, more noticable at 5v but at 12v hardly can be heard.....is this normal ??

Overall it is a very quite fan at 7v (can't hear it at 2 feet away), i would say the noise level is same as 5 v but i dun think 5v push enough CFM

any comments ??

Doesn't sound normal to me. My 120 is very quiet, especially at 5v or 7v.

120's do tend to "rumble" more than 80's. It's usually a lower pitched noise. Is your noise low or high pitched? It may be defective bearings, or more likely, a resonance within your case.

If it's doing it even when it's unmounted I doubt grommets will help. It sounds like bad bearings. Sometimes "secondhand" can be more expensive than you realise.

damn second hand :x ...... so should i get a new PAPST 4412FGML instead....

PAPST 4412FGML,
119x119x25mm,
67.7cfm,
32dB(A),
1950rpm

Panaflo and Papst cost about the same in Aust so which one would be more quiet at 7v ??

isnt the panaflo 120lia 69.5cfm at 30 db or something like that? Id go with the panaflo if u can fit it, its not a x25mm fan u know.

I would personally try to get a papst 4412FGL (55cfm 26db) but otherwise, go with the panaflo probably...although specs arn't all that reliable.
