Oh, come on now, you are in Germany and you didn't buy AMD?Pierce wrote:I just ordered one at http://friese-it.de/index.php
Lets see if it can cool my E4400 passively with one or two 120mm Yates.
Case is a NSK2400.
I couldn't resist buying it, I hope it arrives till Tuesday next week.
Excuse my bad English but I'm in a hurry (got to work:()
Today my Mini Ninja finally arrived.
It looks great and the box is just as flashy as any other Scythe box.
Every required accessory is included but the 775 mounting is a bit hard to mount. Make sure you don't have your mainboard in your case.
A 80mm Fan is included aswell as mounting brackets for 80mm and
92mm fans.
The temps seem to be about 10 degrees celsius better than with the Intel stock heatsink. The cores are enormously cooler. (25 degrees )
The Minja as I call it fits absolutely fine in my NSK 2400.
There is about 1-2cm room between the Minja and the 120mm exhausts.
Clearance between Minja and the case lid is about 1cm (estimated).
I got two 120mm Yates @7V as exhausts and the temps after 1h of Prime95 and Rthdribl are as following:
Minja:
CPU: 32
Sytem:33
GPU: 72
Core1: 35
Core2: 39
Stock:
CPU: 40
System: 42
GPU: 72
Core1: 60
Core2: 60
The fan on the stock heatsinks was running at 0-800rpm in automatic mode.
The Minja is running passively like it has to.
Pics will be uploaded this evening since I got no mouse right now
because i destroyed the receiver earlier.
Any spelling and grammatical mistakes were intended.

Good info Pierce, I've been waiting for the Mini Ninja for a while now.
I have the Gigabyte GA-G33-DS2R as well, btw!
What do you mean? Are you running passively because you want to or because there's no room to mount an 80mm or 92mm fan to push air through the Minja? The Minja is running passively like it has to.

The "nice" box.

Just ask for more pics if you want to see more.
edit:
I think i could mount the 80mm fan but there is just no need for one. What do you mean? Are you running passively because you want to or because there's no room to mount an 80mm or 92mm fan to push air through the Minja? The Minja is running passively like it has to.

One little question, Pierce:
What graphics card are you using? From what I've heard, the passively cooled MSI 8600 GT doesn't fit ... It's heatpipes are slightly too high ...
Actually I'm looking for a 8600 GTS variant that's passively cooled. Any information?

I'm confused. First off, how do you figure eBay in there? Second. shipping to NYC was priced at $11.70 for UPS Ground. Perhaps higher than some but totally inline with what many vendors charge, and far from a fortune. Total price is within a couple of bucks with the rest of them.Felger Carbon wrote:That's eBay; shipping will cost you a fortune.
Minja at jab-tech
Over at jab-tech, the "minja" can be found for $35.95. After S&H to a 94127 area code, the total was $43.71. Pretty good deal there, don't you think? Seems all the web dealers are having a "mini" price war
The pun was a little bad, but you get the point.

It appears from photos at sellers' sites that the Minja K8 mounting has holes at the four corners, and can therefore be mounted at any 90 degree angle. Can any new owner confirm this?
The Ninja RevB did not put the four holes at the corners, and since Scythe was too cheap to drill an extra four holes, the RevB K8 cannot be mounted at any 90 degree angle. And before anybody tells me it doesn't matter, would they please look at the heavy extruded HS atop the baseplate and explain how the air can go thru that extrusion at any 90 degree angle?
The remaining question is, is the Minja mounting firm and tight like the original Ninja or loose and sloppy (with poor thermal contact) like the RevB?

Unbelievable but true - I found the Mini Ninja in this craphole of a country for only $57 (the same price as its rev.B brother). Needless to say, I am very tempted to buy it and finally replace my stock Intel heatsink (running an E4300 at 2.4 GHz). I'd run it passively, of course, as Pierce's report hints to that setup working very well.
Yay or nay?

For continental USA customers, Newegg has it for $30 with $6 shipping.
How many fins does the mini have, and at what finspacing? I have modded two fullsize Ninjas to fit in NSK2400s, and IIRC from that experience, I reduced them from 23 fins to 15, ie losing just over 1/3d of the fins (and after that you still need to bend the heatpipe stalks out of the way, of course).
I won't be buying the mini to replace the modded versions, because both procs keep *damn* cool anyway, but I might buy it next time I need a smaller heatsink -- the modding process is a pain in the arse. Not hard, just tedious.

Right, I missed that. It would be nice if someone were to do a review of mini Ninja versus regular Ninja versus regular Ninja modded to 15 fins, but I'm not holding my breath (especially as I seem to be the only one on the SPCR forums that has done the latter mod).miahallen wrote:17....mentioned on the first page.Jasper wrote:How many fins does the mini have, and at what finspacing? I'd be happy to see the Mini Ninja vs regular Ninja A vs Regular Ninja B on socket AM2 and 775 as the mounting mechanism is just as important as any other part of the design.Jasper wrote:It would be nice if someone were to do a review of mini Ninja versus regular Ninja versus regular Ninja modded to 15 fins, but I'm not holding my breath (especially as I seem to be the only one on the SPCR forums that has done the latter mod).
Ideally we'd see two platforms (one Intel plus one AMD) with tests at fanless, 5v, 7v, and 12v on the stock scythe 120mm fan, the 100mm scythe, and the 80mm scythe.
Yep I want tons of data, go figure...

It does for the K8. On the Minja, there are four holes on the corners of the bracket. On the RevB, there are four holes, but not on the corners, two on opposite 2 sides, none on the other opposite 2 sides. So the RevB cannot be mounted at any 90 degree angle, and the Minja can.NeilBlanchard wrote:I have a question: does the mounting bracket on the Mini Ninja differ from the bracket on the Rev B Ninja?
For you Mini Ninja owners with Fusion/NSK2400, would it be a good idea to mount the included fan facing the video card and blowing directly behind it.
I am planning to do this to cool my 8800GTS down from 85C on load. The Mini Ninja could DEFINITELY run a Core2Duo passively with both tricool fans blowing at it. Even with a mild OC, i hope.
