Popular Content-Please Put Forums First, Also label articles

Post by scdr » Sat Aug 18, 2007 10:58 pm

On the homepage I think the Popular Content section would be easier to use if it listed the Forums section first, with the Articles sections lower down.

For SPCR regulars, the center section gives a quick way to see what is new in the articles, and the right side bar used to give a way to quickly see the most recent Forum contributions. Now it is less convenient, since we have to scroll down quite a way to see the new forum contents.

Since forum contributions are much more frequent than new article publications, seeing what is going on in the fora is much more interesting than to see what articles people are reading. (Those who keep up with SPCR have probably already read most of the articles they are interested in.)

For those new to SPCR it probably isn't that much of a deal to have to scroll down to get to the popular articles section. (They will probably be scrolling around the pages to see what is here anyway.)

If the list of what articles are popular changes a lot, then it may not be all that useful to send people to the "best" content. And if it doesn't change much, then it could just as well go down the page a bit.

Even if you decide not to rearrange the Popular Content area, could you add a label to indicate that the "Today's" and "Last viewed" sections are articles.

Would also be handy if Fora (or forums, if you must) was a link to the Forum Index, or to an expanded list of recent Forum topics.)
(yes I know there is a link on the left hand column, but it adding one here would save hunting for it on the left.)

Thanks
