I think many readers of SPCR would be interested in laptop reviews. Notebookreview.com has lot of good laptop reviews, and they have noise sections. But they don't have actual dB measurements!

Full reviews wouldn't be necessary, even just a table of db measurements at idle and orthos+3dmark(+defrag) load. You could include some laptops that are considered "quiet" and couple ultranoisy monsters, and do short comments on fan control logic behaviour, temperatures (system and external) and hard drive noise. It would make most sense to present dB measurements as (measured dB - ambient dB). You wouldn't have to focus a lot on other properties, as they are covered by other reviews.

Couple of points:

Laptops are expensive
They change models frequently, and there are very significant differences in those models
Not much can be done regardless of findings--both user modwise or better design-wise

If you cram a high-performance dual core and high end graphics into something with nearly no natural air flow or volume of airflow, well, you're going to have some noisy little fans.
However, I'm sure the reviewers here wouldn't mind if you sent them a representative sampling of models on at least a biannual basis. though quarterly would probably be best

The points are valid, however if you need to use a computer somewhere else than at your home, you propably have to get a laptop. And if you need to get one, it would be good to know which ones are noisy and which ones are not

Especially since the differences can be HUGE between quiet and loud ones. Like Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa 1510 which sounds like a vacuum cleaner or Panasonic W5, which is fanless.
