Need help bad temps on first w/c build p182

Here are my parts:
antec p182b
q6600 (stock)
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 680i
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800
EVGA 8800 GTX Superclocked
Creative x-fi Fatal1ty
Swiftech MCR320
Swiftech APOGEE GT waterblock
Ehiem 1250 pump
5 Yate Loon D12SL-12 Fans
(2 on rad in push, one in front pulling, one in back pushing, and one on the chipset heatsink in push)

My temps are 41c idle and 50c after running OCCT for 30 min my ambient temp is 25c.
These temps seem high to me expecialy since its a 3x120 rad cooling just the cpu. Any
suggestions on getting my temps down would be greatly appreicated.

I also tried taking the side panel off and it idles at about 35c so guess I need an intake
fan on the top in one of the drive bays. could anyone recomend a one slot or two slot
5.25" drive bay intake fan?

Have you checked if the water block is making good contact with the cpu?

It's also possible that the heat spreader is concave.

It looks like it's making good contact with the cpu but it's hard to tell.

ya I checked out and the IHS on my q6600 is slightly concaved I plan on laping the IHS and the waterblock sometime this week.

Do you have any suggestions on the 5.25" drive bay intake fan?

double bay, u could ghetto a 80mm fan into that

what are you measuring the temps with?

also, the load temps you quote are not that bad. you will get a def. improvement lapping that cpu, of course, but 50C with a 4-core load is pretty good. idle could be better though.

Your case is extreme negative pressure with that setup of fans.

Remove the one blank 5.25" you have left and make a duct (i.e. block off the area between the fan and the DVD-ROM/RW), this should help.

Do your temps change if you turn off or reduce the fan speed of the rear exhaust?

You could probably turn that exhaust around and use it as an input too. The 8800 blows out of the case anyway.

After making the rear fan pull air in, adding a 80mm fan in the drive bays, and lapping the CPU I now idle at 30c and load at 42c.

I'm pleased to see you got your temps down

Just a quick question, as I'm planning my next build and considering the P182 as well: does it ship with the 3 x 120mm blowhole in the top, or is that a custom job?

charliek: It's a custom job, and not really something you want for an air cooled setup

I ended up completely changing my setup. I now have a lian li v2000 (which is much better suited for watercooling), I changed my rad to a Thermalchill PA120.3, I also moved to a D-TEK FuZion (with a quad nozzle, and pro mount), and plan on switching to a quieter pump probably a DDC w/Petra Top. I couldn't be happier it runs much cooler now and is still very quiet.

For anyone that is considering doing a setup like mine I would strongly suggest not using the p180, it is difficult to do a water setup in.

One more thing I the reason I had such bad temps in the first place was because the radiator I was using was actually not a MCR320 its was a Stealth GTS 360 Black Ice which is not well suited for Yate Loon D12SL-12 7v. So if you did the same setup and used a MCR320 you should be fine.

I'm planning a new build, from scratch, later this year, and I'm tempted by a lian-li: possibly a v2100 plus II.

The only downside that I'd heard was that, because the motherboard goes in upside-down, watercooling blocks can be adversely affected, particularly the northbridge... I'm not sure that I can really see why, though.

I take it you've had no issues?

I was actually also thinking of a P182 or P190 with a triple blowhole in the top. I'm currently cooling an Athlon 64 3400+, a GeForce 6800 Ultra and a northbridge on a Reserator 1 and two nondescript 120mm case fans.

I'm hoping for a similar level of silence from a Thermochill pa120.3 and some Noctuas.

Unfortunately, the availability of some watercooling kit is quite poor here in France. For example, I plan to buy the PA120 next time I'm in the UK. It's Black Ice, Nexxos, or Magicool out here.

Still... I have time to think about it, it'll be a while before I can afford the rig I want. And, hopefully, by then DDR3 will be cheaper and someone will have released a clear-winner video card, that can handle Crysis.

Yeah I haven't had any trouble with water cooling in my v2000. I can't say that I've heard of anyone having problems with it because the motherboard goes in upside-down.

If you can afford it would defiantly recommend the v2000. The only downside I can think of other than it being so expensive is that the case is so huge it dwarfs my p182.

If you go with the P182 or P190 your definitely not going to be able to fit a PA120.3 internally like I did with the Stealth GTS 360 Black Ice. If you want an internal setup like I had I would recommend going with a Swiftech MCR320.

I'll get those pictures posted in a few days and good luck on getting your watercooling components.
