PSU cord length and P182

Post by PretzelB » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:02 am

Am I the only one finding it very hard to make the PSU cords reach in a P182? The major problem child is the ATX connector which always appears to be at the "top left" corner of just about every mb made.

I'm using a Seasonic S12-500 that is a few years old but I recently built a rig (not in a P182) with a new Corsair modular psu and the length of the cords seemed to be just about the same.

I'm debating getting a new PSU but I'd hate to still have the cord length issue with a brand new PSU. Are there any that are extra long? It seems like a popular case so I'm not sure how others are dealing with it.

If you run the cables through the back of the motherboard it should be fine. It worked for my p180 + HX520. The little 4 pins is a bit of a hassle though.

I did run it through the back but it was too tight for my comfort. I had to work very hard to make it work and I don't like putting that much pressure on the cord to stretch it. I was hoping some PSU makers made longer cords so I could get at least an extra inch or two and take the strain off.

I swore I tried to find those at NewEgg a while back and couldn't. I am not sure how I missed that. I may need to grab one someday. Still seems odd that I'm the only one complaining because the P180/2 appears to be very popular.

S12-500 is an older model designed before P180 went into production so its 4 pin auxiliary power cable is a little short. S12+ Energy 550/650 are the ones you want, they have just the right cable length to reach into top left corner of the motherboard behind P180/182 motherboard tray.

There are only three things you can do if you don't like it: do not pass the cable behing the motherboard tray, buy extension cord, or buy different PSU.
