Can a FX 5800 be quietly cooled?

They make noise, too.

Can a FX 5800 be quietly cooled?

Does anyone here own an nVidia Geforce FX 5800 or derivative? How did you silent it?

What holes are there to mount heatsinks or waterblocks with? Are they compatible with anything known to man?

Has anyone tried the Gainward watercooling solution?

i think watercooling would probably be the only way.

edit: maybe you could attach a regular heatsink on it but that may have wieght issues.

I trying to figure it out too, currently have a FX5800 on hand.

I wonder whether the new Zalman ZM80C-HP VGA Heatpipe Cooler with it's fan can be fitted nicely.

I understand this card is very hot with the DDR II ram chips, ramsinks must be use to ensure proper cooling at the GPU's side cause the Zalman HS will not touch the Ram, only the GPU. Correct me if I am wrong pls.

I chance upon this, is it a better option since it's built specially for FX5800 reference design without fan?

According to Zalman's website (http://www.zalman.co.kr/usa/product/ZM80C-HP.htm), the ZM80C-HP will efficiently cool a Geforce FX5800, as long as their accompanying ZM-OP1 fan is also used.

So it all depends on whether your specific 5800 model can accomodate the Zalman heatsink (which can be a problem if there are vidcard components in the way).

I guess the best way to know would be to email them with your specific card model, or ask in their forum..
