ok, so i just ordered a vostro 1500 off dell's website. strangely, it had a $384 rebate, whereas the almost exact laptop, the inspiron 1520, did not have as good a discount...
so anyhow, here's the configuration:
intel core 2 duo T7100 (1.8 ghz, 800mhz fsb, 2 mb cache)
2 gb ram 667 mhz
120 gb 5400 rpm hd
nvidia 8600M GT 256 mb graphics
6-cell battery
15.4" wxga (1280x800) with true life
default audio/wireless
total price was only about $900, whereas a similarly configured inspiron 1520 was about $1100...
any vostro 1500 users out there...i have a quick question. Is there a "graininess" problem with your screens? please share your experiences and/or comments.
and to everybody...how does this laptop look? i'll be mostly using it for photoshop 7.0, music/video, some moderate gaming (bf2, aoe3), and just plain office work.
i just don't get why the inspirons are like $200 more...when they look pretty much the same and are configured the same...wierd

i was pretty much looking for a laptop under 1k that was ~15"...
so i had the dell vostro 1500, inspiron 1520, and hp dv6500t as my choices...
the dv6500t looking by far the best, but it only had 8400GS graphics and cost about $200-300 more for similarly configured specs.
well, i ordered already and let's just hope the vostro's screen looks good
