How to connect two UPS batteries in series?

Post by Vaiski » Fri May 02, 2008 8:41 pm

I have a Powerware 5110 UPS that uses 2x 7Ah batteries.
And naturally when I removed the old batteries I didn't think to make note how the cables were connected..

So here's a picture with batteries and cables, if you could tell me which end goes where I'd be very thankful :)

You hook up positive with negative on one battery, then the remaining 2 terminals to the UPS. AB to 23, D to 1 and C to 4. This will give you double the voltage though. If you're looking to double your battery life then you want parallel, but at the voltage of 1 battery. Here's a quick image to guide you:

Be absolutely sure that your UPS runs these batteries in series first. If you didn't lose any cables then you can be reasonably sure it runs in series as parallel will require an extra wire.
