Problems with Arctic Silver 5

Post by aslg » Fri Oct 17, 2008 6:30 am

I am having problems using correctly Arctic Silver 5.
I am using Arctic Silver 5 between an E8400 and a Ninja Mini with a Thermalright Bolt-through mount. I am following the manufacturer instructions for Dual Core, and I think I am using the right amount of paste. I reinstalled it 4 or 5 times to find the amount that spreads nicely over the two cores.
At the end of the installation I see the the following temperatures:
Core 0: 36, Core 1: 40 (at idle)
Core 0: 51, Core 2: 60 (when running Prime95)
I think I should see the same temperature at each core and I am worried that something is wrong with my installation.
I noticed that the new Arctic Silver 5 paste I bought is thick and I had to apply quite a pressure to squeeze it out the tube. Making the thin line, as in the instructions, was not easy at all!
Do you have any recommendations for improving the result of my installation?

Thanks!

Nothing in the world can read correct temperatures from new Intel CPUs, and Wolfdales are especially known for having borked diodes that are either stuck, or that display weird values.
