Thread content when hovering over thread title

Post by SilenceOfTheFans » Tue Nov 25, 2008 7:07 am

a lot of the GOOD forums will show (at least most of) the content of the first post in a thread when you hover over the title (in any catagory or search results etc), is it possible for that to be done on here? I'm guessing it would be a high up admin thing but it would be great if it was possible? (or have i misinterpreted 'site feedback'

Well, those "good" forums use vBulletin, spcr uses phpBB.

There are two popular sets of software for forums, VBulletin and PHPBB. PHPBB, which the SPCR forum runs on, is free and open-source software. VBulletin is non-free software, adding to the operating costs of the website. Unfortunately, I'm fairly sure the feature you're looking for is only available on VBulletin-based forums.

EDIT: Beaten by seconds...

Oh it's easy. You pay for all the expenses related to migrating/purchasing/running vBulletin and I'm sure MikeC will consider it.

phpBB is fine.

The license alone? $160 USD. The rest? I don't know.

You do know I was joking, right? Besides the cost I'm not sure Mike would enjoy wasting hours migrating to vBulletin, installing, configuring it, dealing with the current database (I don't even know if it's possible to migrate a phpBB database to vBulletin), etc.

I hope not. Tooltips/hover-over popups are *really* annoying.

As far as I know some of our main (founding) members still use dialup. All that flashy forum stuff really bogs down satellite and dialup connections and cost more in bandwidth.

Notice we dont use avatars and don't go for long/spammy sig lines either...(see how your sig is longer than the content in your last post? )

If this place was like "the good sites" it would attract all those "not so good" posters that we tend not to get now. It keeps out the rif-raf.

How many posts of "how do i quiet my 1000watt psu and overclocked quad core?" do we really need per week?

Race car sig lines with porn ads...I don't really miss 'em on SPCR.

I kinda like it this way.
