idle power reduction - MikeC?

Post by jojo4u » Thu Sep 25, 2003 3:51 am

Does anybody of you know if Nvidia or ATI plan to reduce the power needed during non-3d applications?
As a simple customer I am shure that both won't listen to me.
For a overview, look here: http://www.computerbase.de/article.php? ... xp_desktop

i was under the impression that the new nvidia cards required more power than the ati cards.

Actually all new Ati or Nvidia cards already do that. If you notice the power consumption jumps during the 3D benchmarks they show.

Or do you mean reduce it more? As usual, I'm confused.

Of course, more.
Like AMD Athlons without idle disconnect: They are cooler during idle but there is much more possible.
I'd like to see some advanced power saving like in mobile GPUs

I guess my GeForce3 isn't all bad, such low power consumption!
