If/when SPCR upgrades forums...

Post by xan_user » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:49 am

Can I request a 'report spam' button?

If enough members click "this is spam" the thread is locked or moved til the OP can prove otherwise.

As the global economy worsens we will see more and more of it.

Edit:
like a dummy i posted this in Off Topic instead of Site feedback...So im also spamming.

Id ask the mods to move or delete it, but I don't want to add to their work even more..

Alternatively, new members' posts could be moderated. The first few posts of a new member are automatically submitted to the mods before going public. Mods can then determine if the member is legitimate and take appropriate action.

My suggestion is trying to reduce the mods work load.

But that would work too.

How about instead the thread is made inaccessible, awaiting deletion by the mods.

The OP can start another thread for their attempt at proof.

a one week hold on new members from IPs in china would help.

each night this week, like clockwork... now he posts in a random thread 1st, before spamming so he can hyperlink his spam as the 2nd post.

would the mods like pm's when spam post show up, or shall we just let it work itself out?

There are a lot of phpBB forums with this function. And right now we really need it.

Prepearing sock soap for the spammers and / or in vacation. Besides we have to remember spam hasn't been terrible problem in these forums, so response time may not quite be what its in other sites.

Mods are always here, deleting these SPAMMERS as soon as we see them.

We're also ready to delete the accounts of other posters who question our performance. :D

By that logic then your post is also spam! Therefore, you lose!

Last time I checked I wasn'tillegally promoting/selling anything at SPCR.

Spam is oppression when it illegally uses public discussion boards to sell you shlock.

To me there's a big difference between kibitzing and spamming.

looks like upping the no links limit didnt help much...

We should have spam flagging kinda like Craigslist, every spcr with over 100 posts gets to hit the spam button at the top of a new thread. - after 5 spam hits, the thread is locked away to a hidden island forum.

I dunno. Couldn't that lead to things like Apple vs. PC/ Left-wing vs. right-wing, etc. "thread-closing fests" in the forums? Look how heated they already get even without having the ability to cast your punitive vote to lock the thread.

Why over-complicate a simple thing. Just add a "report post" button that will alert a mod/admin which will take action if needed.
