Why 50%?

Post by KansaKilla » Fri Apr 24, 2009 8:47 pm

So I've searched for the past several hours (when I should have been studying....again) on why my quad core is only showing ~50% CPU usage and haven't been able to find squat. 3850 on an XP box with a Q6600 and 4GB ram.

GPU client -- affinity set for core 3 per process lasso
SMP client -- affinity set for cores 0,1,2

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I think I figured it out

Didn't realize I had to use the -smp and -deino flags on the shortcut. Now at 93-97% utilization (with 90% reserved for folding on 3 cores).

Why?

Seemed to lag when other programs are started. If my wife uses Pandora, there is some slowdown/lag/stuttering. So, I decided to reserve 90% for that.

Anytime I reduced the percentage the loss exceeded the percentage, it became a dog folding.

I'm really focusing on that computer as a GPU folder, so I consider anything I can get from the remaining cores to be gravy. Much better to have some efficiency loss than to have the pain of hearing the boss complain.
