Will likely begin testing within the next week to two weeks hopefully.
I have two sets of results to submit in the coming weeks. The first is courtesy of a good friend of mine while the second is my sister's. I also have AS5 with which I can compare it to and my friend has the Liquid Metal stuff from Coolaboratory.
Exact specs are unknown but he has:
Q6600
8GB G.Skill DDR2-1066 ram
eVGA GeForce GTX260 216sp
640GB WD Caviar Black
1TB WD Caviar Green
Corsair HX520
Lian-Li 58 series case(?)
My sister's specs are:
E7200
4GB Crucial DDR2-1066 ram
Gigabyte Radeon 4850 512MB
640GB WD Caviar Blue
Antec Earthwatts 500w
Antec Sonata III
My rig is unfortunately a bit too complicated to be moving things in and out of =(

Now that the formalities are out of the way, I'm doing some ram testing in various configurations, on various platforms. Done with this board, but I have two more to do, but can't start them for a week and a half. Also using 3 cpu's, so there's a lot of changing involved.
Currently use AS5 and MX-2, always interested in trying different brands though.

Many reviews of IC7 seem to prove your statement wrong.
I also read FrostyTech, which is where I saw this referenced.

Anyway, I agree with aimndtel. The material works fine, but don't expect any miracles. If you look at FrostyTech you will see the trend to Direct connect Coolers being the most effective. Xigmattek, Sunbeam, and TITAN lead the list and are relatively cheap. To quote Frosty Tech
The reason why MX-2 and TX-2 work so well is that they are low viscosity greases. They fill only the defects with a thin film and allow the heat the shortest path to get to the cooling liquid.exposed 8mm diameter direct contact heat pipes at the base. These allow heat to be efficiently conducted from the CPU to the aluminum fins without passing first through a secondary heat spreader where voids can impede thermal conduction.
While diamonds, or graphite, or gold dust are all great conductors, the real limiting equations are the rate of heat transfer AWAY from this interface. IE, the heat pipes, or water cooling is what is limiting your cooling, not the interface material. A very thin layer of grease, will conduct just as well as a thicker layer of AS5.
Hence all the recent reviews I have seen of thermal pastes just confirm this state of diminishing returns. The difference bt. MX-5, TX-5, and IC7 is often less that a degree different.
IC7 is thick, and a little difficult to spread in my opinion, but that is just a matter of personnel preference. It will work fine for you, just don't expect to see a night and day difference.

Having used IC7 lots of times, I've found the best method isn't to even bother trying to spread it, it just doesn't work... just follow their instructions and ignore how you do things with normal TIM.mdk777 wrote:IC7 is thick, and a little difficult to spread in my opinion, but that is just a matter of personnel preference. You just put a pea sized blob in the middle of your CPU and then clamp down your CPU, if its one that has a screw tightening retention bracket then just make sure you keep tightening each screw a bit at a time so it evenly compresses

Looking at their site, that's the way to do it. Another long time lurker... I would like to test the TIM. I'm in the process of building a (hopefully fanless) HTPC, probably with an AMD Sempron or 4850e, or some comparable chip and some massive-but-yet-to-be-determined heatsink. If you need the test info quickly, I can use it on my current energy-hogging computer with an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and stock heatsink/fan.
