Hi Guys,

I was hoping you could help in finding some passive cooling bits for my HTPC... I'm struggling to find the right parts myself, being out of touch with the PC game

First, I need a passive cooler for an Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Socket 775... It must be less than 10CM tall to fit in the case... I use a Scythe Ninja Passive cooler on my other PC, but its far too tall, as is the Mini version Any ideas?

Second, I need a passive cooler for a 8600GT 512meg Graphics Card... I can find new models that are passively cooled, but nothing aftermarket for that card

Again, I'm not really sure what manufacturers I should be looking for!

These will be used in a case with an undervolted PSU fan, so there will be some airflow across em

Help with this would be realyl appreciated, I'm seriously out of touch!

Cheers,
Rich

Since Minja is out of question there isn't much alternatives. I think you ought to look some good low noise cooler like Shuriken for that.

As for passive graphics cooler, Accelero S1 rev 2 is good but I doubt your case can fit it easily. So your alternative is Thermalright HR-03-series coolers.

Hi Jampaa,

Thats a shame, I was hoping for a passive that would be under 10cm tall... The Ninja Mini is so close to fitting!

Just looking at the Accellero S1 Rev 2 here...

I can't see the 8600GT on the supported list, do you know if it would fit?

Well you know what they say..you can't have your cake and eat it too.

To ask for a passive cooler thats that short is a bit rediculous. see..its either massive & passive or short & audible.

That said..the short & audible option doesn't have to be loud..if you're smart about it, a little air moving over a good heatsink will do that job for that cooler. but to ask for a passive cooler that short is obsurd...

...unless you like your fried chips pun intended.

It lists nVidia 8800, 8600, 8500. You should be fine. Just check from that page heigh limits. If you're card is based on reference Accelero will go well

I actually have the Accellero on an 8600gt 512mb ddr3 card (the evga one which is reference I believe) and it works nicely. Have the ramsinks on both sides and have a mild (~15%) oc on it and it runs at least 15 deg C cooler than stock (which sounded like a vacuum) with no fan.

What are the dimensions of the case though, cause the Accellero is kind of a monster?

How about a VNF100 for that GPU ?
link : http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Pro ... sp?Idx=147

It's small and quite efficent (worked like a charm on my 8600 GS).
