Doesn't matter what stock is, most ATX boards made within the last couple years ship with FSB set to 333. That doesn't mean they cant be turned up to 400 without going over spec. If the board manufacturer specifies 1600 FSB, it means you can safely get to 1600 without putting the board out of warrentee. When ASRock came up with this number, they took into account all chipsets on the board.Monkeh16 wrote: Both the CPU and the chipset (ignore ASRock, the chipset is made by Intel) run at 333MHz stock. You are overclocking if you increase that. It won't do any harm, but it is still overclocking.

Uh, no, they set the FSB based on the CPU. You're still overclocking, warranty or not, and it will invalidate the warranty on the CPU if they ever find out. If you go above the rated maxmums of any components, you're overclocking.RoGuE wrote:Doesn't matter what stock is, most ATX boards made within the last couple years ship with FSB set to 333. You make a valid argument. I suppose it IS overclocking the FSB rating of the CPU, but I will stand by my argument that the board is fully capable of staying within it's rating at that speed.
Now that we got that out of the way...are you really going to suggest he hold back his processor like that? With the proper cooling there is no reason it can't be 100% stable under the increased FSB speed I suggested.
Hell, the new i7's are all the same damn processors. Same die. The only difference is they clock them up for the higher models and ship em as is. the 920 can preform just as well as the 975 with the proper cooling.
Just a little fun fact.

I never suggested it isn't. I've never seen a P35, P43, or P45 which won't do 400. It's still overclocking.RoGuE wrote:You make a valid argument. I am not. If you look up a bit, I suggested increasing the FSB and leaving the multiplier as-is. A stock cooler can manage that on a Q6600, any aftermarket cooler is capable of doing that for a Q9650.Now that we got that out of the way...are you really going to suggest he hold back his processor like that? So are most Core 2 Duos and Quads. They just bin them at the factory.Hell, the new i7's are all the same damn processors. Same die. The only difference is they clock them up for the higher models and ship em as is. the 920 can preform just as well as the 975 with the proper cooling.

To overclock or not, that's the question... =)
BTW. I just got my new PSU, the 1000W Corsair. Heavy as a couple of bricks and pretty much overkill for my system. But! It should handle pretty much anything I throw at it in the future.

Off course it's possible, just look in my second cheiftec mod, it's basically the same case. You must remove some extra area from the steelplate but it fits a 120 mm fan for sure.robbie13 wrote:I think the picture makes it obvious that's not possible at the back, maybe the front...bozar wrote:You should be able to dremel out fangrills and make place for a 120 mm fan.
@OP
why that case? you got some nice components there, why not something new?

I love what you did to the old chieftec!
I did a similar mod to my antec 1080 AMG (the same case, more or less) but i have taken my mods to a higher level.
I run an old barton 2500+ with an ati 2600 pro AGP and a samsung spinpoint F1 in it hot as hell (except for the spinpoint).
I promise you, that in the next couple of days i will put up my rig up here in the forums so that you can check it out. In the post i will also write down the parts that i am "about" to buy and put in my old sawed up antec!
psst! "one of the parts is an antec cp850... probably"
ps. first post.. i have lurked long enough!

BTW, I just sold this case and got a Antec Solo instead... I feelt it was a little biggish and not up to date fan-wise.
