Hi 2 all,

I'm building an htpc and I own a BCM MX965GME and a core2duo mobile cpu, T5470 socket p.
I'd like to install a passive cooler BUT i need to find one that fits socket p. Is cpu passive cooling a good idea in a completely fanless system, with the CPU that (actively cooled) reaches 40° celsius in idle and 60° at full speed?
Can you help me please? The PSU is a picopsu120 and I don't have other fans.

Cordially

I don't know about fanless, but I cool a Socket P P8400 with one of these: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thhrchco1.html and a undervolted Nexus 92mm fan, and it runs very cool.

what about a Scythe Big Shuriken? Do you think it fits my motherboard?
Look at the picture (please click on the thumbnail) and you'll see the distance between items. It is an Intel core2duo mobile socket p motherboard.. I know it's a strange kind of socket but.. please help me! :)

Image

the yellow capacitor on the right is 1,2 cm tall and the vertical battery is 1,9 cm tall. The grey passive heat sink is as stated in the picture 3,2 cm tall. Please help me!

I also want to know if I can use the big shuriken in my motherboard even if i have a 3 pins fan connector. What happens if I don't have the fourth?

Best wishes

Stefanello

Hi,
This is my setup:
MSI im-gm45 motherboard
Intel P9600
Lian Li pc-q09f (with flex PSU). There's only one slow rpm 80mm fan in the case.
Cooljag SEA-E cpu heatsink

I got to 90 degrees Celcius in the BIOS.
Any suggestions to get my rig to lower temperatures without buying a different CPU heatsink & fan?

I'm guessing there's not enough air flow and the sodimms are blocking some airflow since it is next to the case fan.
Thanks.
