Where is the "home theater module"?

They show one being used as a music studio? Doesn't seem like they would be very good for acoustics, no matter what sound-proofing techniques you use over the insides of the shell.

They probably don't gas out like so many housing materials. I'm not too sure about the acoustics of such a place.

:?: - Does the fact they used to be shipping containers mean the government can search the place whenever it feels like it? :?

More interesting stuff from one of Xan's links in the OP.

No gassing out! Does it come in chocolate and vanilla?

Image how loud it will be when it rains. Might make sense for something like site offices as they're typically made out of very lightweight flimsy stuff and could do with being stronger.

Most hard foam, chipboard, and glues in furniture contain formaldehyde. It leaks out gas continuously. Not healthy.

Example - FEMA trailers.

... but if you have harsh winter's these kinds of things might not be so suitable. However for warmer climate countries they might suit very well

Seems as easy to insulate as a conventional home...could also be partially buried in ground (these guys obviously didn't)and built with other ways of adding thermal mass. with the right passive and active solar, (and lots of f@h) you would probably only need to supplement the heat with wood or gas occasionally.

Soy-based insulation!

Hi,

Here's something great that I saw at Build Boston this year: Containers to Clinics

They convert shipping containers into medical clinics.

Holy Necro-Post!

That said... I lived in a single pod for a year with two other guys while I served in Iraq. The single serving versions of these are the US DOD's modular living system throughout the world. I've seen warehouses with these stacked three high and girder/grate between them to make massive hotel style living systems.
