Hi from Australia!

Post by outbackyak » Fri Jan 01, 2010 4:31 am

Hi all! Just introducing myself - I'm a noob to silencing PCs - my current PC is an aging stock P4 2.8, with its only concessions to quietness being an Antec Sonata case and a passively cooled graphics card.

I use it mainly as a DAW, but until now I've only been working with Propellerhead Reason, not doing any audio recording, so the fact that it can get a bit noisy under load hasn't really bothered me - it really only starts sounding like a jet plane when I'm playing games.

But now I'm speccing up a new i7 860 DAW, planning on doing Audio recording using Record & Reason, and quietness is VERY high on my agenda - the proposed build details are in the "System Advice/troubleshooting" forum under "i7 860 DAW build - please help this poor noob" (I can't post a link yet as this is only my second post).

The info here on the forum and in the articles is fantastic - thanks all.

Cheers!

WELCOME TO SPCRRRRRRRR 8)

It's a great community here and there is lots of useful information in these forums. Handful of Aussies on here too so that might help when you go looking for parts or what's available down yonder.

That should be a heck of an upgrade for you also :D

Welcome!

If you haven't seen this thread yet, it's a great list of where to buy quiet PC parts in Australia.

From experience, PC Case Gear is a great place to buy from and they carry a lot of the recommended parts from this site. Shipping to WA may be a bit expensive, depending on what you buy so stick to smaller/non-bulky or specialist parts.

If you not aware of it, static ice is a great search engine for PC parts in Australia. Just add 'state:wa' to your search to find results from WA only.

Thanks for the welcome, JamieG! I knew about PC Case Gear, but I didn't know about static ice - very handy.

Thanks again.
