Report Post button

Post by Firetech » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:49 pm

You wouldn't need this type of thread if a 'report bad post button' type facility was enabled.

i.e http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/24

I'd imagine it's a fairly simple option/hack for the admins?

Hi,

I agree that the ! button to report a problem post is the way to go.

No it isn't. Make multiple users push that button and you have a long morning once you wake up. The feature must be implemented in a way other than a simple "hack", with proper database access and encryption code. Ideally, the moderators don't want their PM to get full. Something like a hidden thread or forum they can access where all reported spam posts get posted to. This way once a mod has removed all reported spam, there are no "ghost" reports to be seen by other mods. Minimises confusion and is much more efficient than simply PMing all mods.

Taking these into consideration I think my anti-spam thread is much more efficient. It takes a bit of a time to do the reporting process, but if you don't do it, someone always will and finally the mods will clean up the forums. That's the point, not to have mods go postal, because of unnecessarily many reports of the same spam. I moderate a couple of phpBB and Invision forums, the Report Spam button is really annoying.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

This seems to be working well -- keep posting links to Spammers!

is it better to post user name link or actual post links? or does it even matter?

[Mod: Either way works!]

Hello,

Yes, and I've moved that one post to the Test Forum, which is the place it should have been put. The person was just getting their post count up enough to be able to post URL's.

I appreciate your patience with this -- it is the best way to avoid Spambots, but it can be a little inconvenient.

Feature request

Post by xan_user » Sun Jan 24, 2010 8:20 am

Would it be possible to have a link to this thread on top or bottom of every page, labeled "report spam here"?

I think these forums should have a "Report post" button. Then there would be no need for this topic and spammers would be handled with faster.

I think the speed would be virtually the same -- because this thread "reports" to the people who have subscribed to it; and it gets handled in exactly the same way.

Thanks for your patience on this (again!)! Until the Admin can find the Spammer's IP, I cannot ban them.

Do not click on the link in these PM's!

Mods-
Would it be possible to dump all members with 0 posts that have urls in their member profiles? Its a common search bomb technique.

I do not know if this is possible -- I think if it is, it would take the admin to do it?

memberlist.php?mode=website&order=DESC&start=820

memberlist can be sorted by "web page" and "post count" separately, so I would guess its possible with admin privileges to sort by both fields simultaneously...? if not there's only ~840 members with WWW to go through and eliminate the dead wood. :P

If possible we should have a minimum post count to allow listing a website in your profile.

The spammers are at full force again... so much for better anti-spam with the upgrade...
Not to mention they now don't need 3 posts to post a link.

At least we now have a "report post" button.

Here's a thought... you could make it so that the first 3 (or so) posts of any new forum member must first be approved by a moderator. That would substantially reduce spam.

Yes, I apologize -- this is a new mode of Spam, or at least. That "user" has be deleted, and the site admin will have to look into it.
