Swiftech H2O-220 Apex Ultima Noise Level?

Post by mfc2 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:30 pm

Bit-Tech and a couple other places suggest that the Swiftech H2O-220 Apex Ultima is the best water cooling solution. Does anyone here have any experience regarding this system in regards to noise levels? It seems like the Zalman Resterator gets most of the attention on this forum.

Even at 5v that seems quite noisy - 24dbA or am I missing something?

That is the fan noise.

What about the pump noise?

Ah ok - so using different fans can bring that down.

I am really interested in how loud these pumps actually are - as they are the main thing holding me back from watercooling.

I don't know anyone with a WC setup that I can go and listen to, and youtube clips are never accurate!

My MCP655 is unacceptably loud at full power, but at significantly reduced speed it is much better. The Swiftech H2O-220 Apex Ultima uses the MCP655-B version though. It has no speed control. Also, a Thermochill PA120.2 or 120.3 is a better choice of radiator for sure.

A MCP655 at full power is louder than a Scythe S-Flex 120mm 1200RPM fan at 12v as a comparison. The worst part is that the sound is a dirty thrum. I have read that the MCP350 is better, but I haven't heard it myself.
