Threat of Slo-Tech and the future
I've been watching the overtake date for Slo-Tech coming up behind us. Its been slowly moving backward. Was Oct 28, now back to Nov 3. Seems we've found some new power recently. This is good.
On another note, even if they do overtake us we might have a chance at catching them back. Our trend has been consistently upwards for the last week. Slo-Tech's (and many others in the top 30) has been noticeably downward. If this keeps up we'll surpass them in daily production, and overtake them instead.
Should be interesting.

Borg borg borg...I'm slowly collecting computers. I added an unknown processor (friend installed it on his machine), a celeron 750, a P4 1.6 and a P-M 1.2. I'll try and collect more minions on my trip across the states. I know I can get my parents' 3 computers, my sister's computer, my grandfather's computers, and probably my brothers' computers. Not sure on their specs, but every little bit helps. Maybe I'll put an ad online offering to repair computers in return for lunch and their borging

No kidding! Their #1 folder (ELan_Balisarius) just put up a single WU worth 71 points. I've never seen a 71 point WU! I calculated the average points/WU out his daily production numbers and compared them to our own #1 folder, TRC-13:Zyzzyx wrote:Interesting bit looking at Slo-Tech's production numbers. They're just above us in the 3 hour score, ~1200 to our ~900 (depends on the day).
But, and this is the wierd part, they're doing 1/4 of the work units. Where we're doing ~110 WU, they're doing ~25 WU, and getting more score.
Wassup widdat?
Code: Select all

10/25 52.85 49.60
10/24 55.52 46.59
10/23 54.13 48.89
An odd data point I just noticed: Every one of ELan's 3-hour uploads today and all of his/her totals for the previous week ends in ".00" points. Strange. I've never seen that anywhere else, but I also don't get out much.
So where is ELan getting all of these high-point WUs? How do I get some?

You probably want to stay away from those, they are tinker core and takes around 38 hours on a XP2200 to complete a WU. A 51 point gormac core WU would take ~18-19 hours on the same machine.sbabb wrote: So where is ELan getting all of these high-point WUs? How do I get some?
Yes there are a lot of 70.90 Tinkers out there. I have one in an Athlon XP 1800 and it will take some 46 hours. If you want mines I'll give them to you gladly .So where is ELan getting all of these high-point WUs? How do I get some?
I wonder what machines he has to finish them so quick, he must be receiving gromacs also for sure.
Stanford says he has 60 active CPUs.
In the most recent 3-hour block he uploaded 7 WU for 426.00 (again with the ".00") points. That's almost 61 points/WU. I just noticed that his (or her) upload at 12:00AM was 2 WU for 142.00 points - 71.00/WU average again!
He must be a master borger!
His trend line is downward, though, so we may have some hope.

They are yellow right now. At 3:00 pm they have 8200 points for today, which probably will be our score for all the day (if we have a good day). Now the sats shows they will catch us on November 4, but i think they'll do it sooner. It seems like they are redoblating their efforts these days.
Well, lets enjoy the 28 rank for the moment and wait for passing Germany team.

Their current gain is ~640 pts/day. Not something that would be insurmountable for us to gain in additional production.
Also took yet another look at all the 'green' teams above us. The production trend line for all of them is still downward. Slo-Tech and SPCR are the first two green teams listed that have steady or increasing production trends.

Slo-Tech may not pass us at all......
I see that their pass date has slipped again, to November 12. I think Sbabb's and Zyzzyx's recent ramps have kicked in. Also, we outproduced them yesterday (October 30).

I've been using continuous folding as a break-in as I'm slowly overclocking my new XP-2500 system. Since I'm still using the stock HSF (YUCK!) I'm taking it slowly and watching the temperatures. Once the watercooling goodies are available (pump is out of stock) I'll WC it and the ramp up on that box will be faster. I've also got a couple of sub-1GHz boxes that will join in the effort as soon as I get a few free minutes to network them and load F@H on them.
Zyzzyx: Congrats on breaking into the top 50 at SPCR and the top 10000 in all of F@H! Way to go! That tiny dot waaaaaaay back in your rear-view mirror is me, though, and I'm slowly gaining on you

And use the 3.25 beta client. Ensures SSE will be used, if available, on every work unit run.Buddabing wrote:Ramp! Borg! Use -forceasm and -advmethods!

Yeah, that's kind of weird. A couple of the PC's here on the network get a little hung up on the firewall. They still send their units in, and I know I get credit for them, but they don't get deleted from the queue.dat file. Not all of them do this, obviously. Its some kind of 2-way communication problem. But yes, if you store 10 completed WU's and then finish another one, the first one is gone.

IF you use the graphical program, edit the "target" or path for the shortcut and make it look like so:DryFire wrote:and how exactly do you use -foreasm and -advmethods?Buddabing wrote: Ramp! Borg! Use -forceasm and -advmethods!

Well, we've out-produced Slo-Tech for the last 3 days. We've almost got them beat for the last 7 days production. They're overtake date has slipped from early November 2003 to mid November 2004.
And they're still on that downward trend. If we can hold the production we're at, I don't think Slo-Tech will remain any threat.

"and the future"
The future is not us, it is THEM, them that are about to join us!
I can say that now, I'm not one of "them".
The other "THEM" are(is?) the ones that I will climb past in the points rankings very soon. I figure(no doubt) in the next day or two I will be in the top 150 or better.
Why? What happened to "them"? Where did they go? Why are they not folding? Or WHY did they start folding for another team?
I believe I know the answers to all these questions, they are very complex answers. At this time I can't stand the noise of this KEYBOARD so you will have to wait until I get a quieter keyboard, plus I am busy and my processor has more important things to do.
Honestly, I hope that a bunch of new upstart groups kick butt and push us back to #2000 that would be a GREAT thing!
I'd try the beta thing. Go for all the points that I can get, but that's not what I realy want to do. I am going to let my processor do everything. Plus this Keyboard is making me tone deaf.
I got a bunch of "THEM" new recruits lined up BUT I'm gonna keep quiet about it, and so are they.
P.S. I'm just giving a hard time to those who think so!

HA! I have never been passed, I will never be passed, it WILL NOT HAPPEN.tangled wrote:
For myself; thwarted again. I was so close to passing Cosine (within 100 points) but it seems he changed gears and accelerated..
Oh well, my selfishness be damned, it was good for the team, and the Cause!
lol... no idea how I've managed to stay ahead of you this long... I'm out of machines to borg.

SloTech has had a resurgence
Hello:
Well, don't look now but SloTech has had a resurgance -- they are back in the yellow for the daily production, though our weekly total is still higher. But if they manage to keep it up, they will start gaining on us again.
We are setting new weekly highs for our team, but it would still be really awesome to get our *ACTIVE* memership up to 50-60% instead of the ~45% we have now... we *need those "gray" folks to resume folding -- and to keep on going from there!

You know who you are...c'mon back and Fold!
