i have a Seagate 500gb HDD which lays there unused because it's self-destructing itself (more and more reallocated sectors when in use...) little by little because someone have hit my external enclosure and it fell down the computer, dammit!! ...so yeah, this one is only used for transfering a lot of big files from a computer to another.

But i wonder...is there a way to tell the HDD to repair itself so it stops creating reallocated sectors?

Sorry but no. You should wipe the data and then just recycle the drive. It's physically broken and it can't heal in any way.

it still can be used...i'll just use it to transfer big files from a point to another, so it won't be used often.

You can do that, but you might just find that you get data corruption, and/or CRC errors and find that you cant even use the drive like that.

lm is right, its basically scrap, but at least you might get a little use out of it as you plan, just be prepared to be disappointed.

so far it doesn't have any bad sector, and anyway, i might take this WD5000AADS out when i'll migrate/clone everything on my incoming WD10EALS.

I missed my warning signs on the mainframe, and paid dearly for it.

My suggestion? Get your data off that drive, remove the platters, and use them as fancy coasters. Store them on top of a really large CRT TV so that they get demagnetized.
