I like the look and price of the Antec 300, except for the drive cage.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ant ... 707-7.html

I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the 3.5" cage, whilst leaving the 5.25" part intact and secure enough to still mount optical drives? Then I could suspend my drive from that.

I only plan to have one HD in there and one of the reasons the 300 appeals is because it has two front fans, which means I can disable the bottom one and stuff my unused PSU cables behind it, and suspend the HD in front of the top fan, which will also provide some air for the graphics card.

If it's too tricky to remove the 3.5" cage, I guess I could just widen it and use grommets as suggested here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/vi ... hlight=300

Hi doveman,

I don't own a three hundred but I think You just have to use a stell drill on the rivets to remove them properly witouth damaging anything.

And if you want you can do a 5.25" mod with the 3.5" cage, you had just one panel to move and you can suspend your drive in.

I've done it. Have a look at my A300 mod, see sig.
Just drill straight through those rivets and they pop loose.

Excellent, thanks guys.

I just wasn't sure if the 3.5" part was separate from the 5.25" part but it's even better that I can just remove one panel and suspend from the remaining one. 8)
