using i7 950 with Megahalems passively?

Post by guermantes » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:51 pm

Hi,
What do you think, would I burn my CPU if I booted with no case fans and removed the CPU fan so that the Megahalems is only cooling passively?
Thanks!

You already have the rig, so try it out. You won't burn the CPU.

I don't think it's gonna work though. The 950 is pretty hot, so is the X58 chipset. And once the 6850 beings to work, thermal shutdown seems predestined.

you can't "burn" an intel cpu, because they throttle way down at 100c, even to the point of shutting off.
