Scythe Universal Retention Kit 3

Post by Jordan » Thu Jan 27, 2011 4:20 am

I've just had a press release email from scythe about the 'Universal Retention Kit 3'
Scythe Universal Retention Kit 3 allows safe mounting of bigger and heavier CPU Coolers thanks to a solid backplate based mounting system. Thanks to the provided multi-socket support it is possible to use it with Intel® Socket T / LGA775, LGA1156 LGA1366 as well as new LGA1155 and AMD® Socket 754, 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3 and 940.Supplied metal Retention Bracket offers more safe and solid solution for AMD mainboards allowing even big and heavy CPU Cooler. Thanks to the supplied Push-Pin Removal Tool it is possible to remove Push-Pins from CPU Coolers more easy and fast.
In the past they released a universal mounting bracket/clips for the Ninja RevB but I have a Ninja RevA :( I'm not completely sure what this does though - is it just replacing a push-pin system with a solid backplate mounting system?

All I want to know is is there anyway my Ninja RevA can be used on LGA1155?

If it helps, Scythe said in their forum that their Mugen 2 upgrade kit (the additional hardware and upgraded backplate included with Revision B) will adapt a Ninja Copper to 1155. I don't see the option to buy it so you should ask them if they still have any.

Hi!

I have a new (LGA1155) Asus P8H77-M PRO motherboard and planning to use the Scythe Universal Retention Kit 3 for attaching a Ninja 2 (together with a Scythe SCCL4-1366 adapter).

I'm very suprised that the P8H77-M PRO has a little a metal backplate natively on board.
Is this a common for LGA1155 boards?

Is this conflicting to the backplate of Scythe Universal Retention Kit 3 ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, all 1155 boards have it. No, you can't remove it. Most importantly - no, it will not interfere. The SCURK 3 backplate has its middle part properly recessed so it nicely accommodates the native 1155 backplate. Go ahead, buy the SCURK 3 and enjoy proper mounting (no pushpins!) on your new platform :)

Thanks a lot!
Then it's OK. :)

I got the SCURK-3000 and now everything is ready to build but I need time. :)
