fans with the highest static pressure
hi i am new on this site, found this page when I searched for a 120mm computer fans,
so i hope you can help me
im looking for the fan with the highest static pressure,
it should be under 25 dba preferrably less
and move at least 28 cfm
i've have looked at some like these:
Silverstone AP121 Air Penetrator - 120mm
Noctua NF-P12-1300 - 120mm
Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm - 1150 rpm
is any of these a good choice or is there a better choice?
regards nucc

I guess it isn't (so) simple: do you want the highest pressure at a given flow, or at a given noise level?
Moreover 25dB is a rather high noise level, while 28CFM is a moderately low flow level.
Re: fans with the highest static pressure
Those are probably not dab choices. Dorothy Bradbury used to sell some ball bearing 120mm NMB panaflow fans that generated more static pressure at the low sound levels. Seems like she is out of that business. But I think you can still get sleeve bearing versions.nucc wrote:hi i am new on this site, found this page when I searched for a 120mm computer fans,

I would select the 1900 rpm Scythe Gentle Typhoon and downvolt it until you get what you are looking for. I think you can downvolt it to under 800 rpm and it is the same blade. If you look at the blade you can see that it is designed to handle high static pressure in a way that the other two fans are not. The downside is that it takes more RPMs for the Gentle Typhoon to generate the same free air CFMs as the other fans.

Re: fans with the highest static pressure
38mm thick fans can push more air into static pressure than 25mm thick fans. Static pressure means more noise.
What is your specific situation? What is your system, and where will these fans be used?

How about these:NeilBlanchard wrote:38mm thick fans can push more air into static pressure than 25mm thick fans. Static pressure means more noise.

AFAIK they are clearly inferior to the classic Gentle Typhoon.
Re: fans with the highest static pressure
im gonna jump in here and back the GTs as well. not sure i'd get the high rpm one, but rather something like the 1450rpm one(the 1150 might work fine). you can go onto any forum with a bunch of watercoolers, and they'll point you to the gt for static pressure.
the silverstone ap is just a fan with a straightener on it, when it hits something, the flow breaks up like any other fan. its more for blowing air across a case than for blowing through a high back pressure situation.
the GT on the other hand will blow less air in free space, but they really dont lose their strength when strapped to a heatsink or a radiator; thats where their strength lies.
if we could, is there more specific information on what the fans will be doing?

30-39dBA is darn loud.
Re: fans with the highest static pressure
Its all relative. An SPCR dB isn't the same as an Xbits dB.NeilBlanchard wrote:30-39dBA is darn loud.
At 500 rpm the Triebwerk generates 9.3 Xbits CFM at 30.1 Xbits dB

At 600 rpm the Nexus generates 9.2 Xbits CFM at 30.4 Xbits dB

I believe that these are fee airflow numbers, the relative numbers would no doubt be different with higher static pressure.
That is the problem with fan reviews. They are only good within the test. And the test may or may not duplicate your environment. In fact you can rest assured that no test, including SPCR tests, duplicates your environment.
It would be so helpful if all reviews gave results in
1. free air,
2. slightly high static pressure and
3. real high static pressure.
It would make it much easier to extrapolate the testing results to your particular application or need.
I am unaware of any fan reviewer who does this. Xbits after testing the fan, admits that it has no clue about its static pressure performance: ""Hopefully, this fan has no rivals in terms of static pressure."
They tested it and they admit they are still clueless about its static pressure performance.

Re: fans with the highest static pressure
Nice to see that the OP seem very interested into this thread, however...
Re: fans with the highest static pressure
hi all, and thanks for all your answers
i prefer high static pressure with a low noise level,
over a high airflow, (as long as it don't get below 28cfm)
i can see that most of you recommend, the Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm - 1150 rpm
over the Noctua NF-P12-1300 - 120mm
so i think i will go with that, if that's the better choice,
even though the spec. is lower..
thanks a lot everybody
"Nice to see that the OP seem very interested into this thread, however..."
if that was entitled to me, then i'm sorry, i cant be on the web every day
an on a side note, thanks fumino i'll defently get a Silverstone AP121
to blow inside the cabinet. thanks!
