I'm wondering if someone somewhere makes something that I have been thinking about for a while.
It would be like a stereo "reciever" (pre-amp and amp) but pared down with just an RCA mini or even just 1 or 2 sets of RCA inputs. 2 amplified channels, decent sound quality, not a lot of power. This is the type of device that you could put between say an iPod and some quality bookshelf speakers.
ETA: Looks like Audiosource AMP 100 is similar to what I'm looking for, but perhaps sound quality isn't that great, and it doesn't have an RCA mini input either.
ETA: little more google-fu and amazon-fu and I came up with this:
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdet ... er=300-383
Which seems just about perfect. Only downside is no remote control for the volume, but I guess that's what you get in a minimalist package.

What, you mean something like all those T-amps on ebay? (like http://cgi.ebay.nl/TA2024-Tripath-Class ... 4aa73966f0)
Don't know if small amplifiers like you describe are sold in regular audio stores - maybe only the variety with CD and radio and mediocre speakers.

I would stay away from Audiosource amps. I bought one of those for unpowered speakers to use with my computer and the amp is junk.djkest wrote:ETA: Looks like Audiosource AMP 100 is similar to what I'm looking for, but perhaps sound quality isn't that great, and it doesn't have an RCA mini input either.
