Review LG IPS236V
Please note that these pictures are not able to reproduce the faithful look of the screen, specially of close ups.
My window is located exactly behind the desk. On this picture I let down the shutter about ¾ of the way:
And on this picture daylight is hitting the screen:
Close ups of my screen are rubbish compared to the real look:
Good color display even at skewed viewing angles:
I find this silver thinge close to the power LED ridiculous:!
From my opinion the stand is sufficiently robust.

Re: LG IPS236V
Thanks for the review, Cov.
Can you provide the name of the Eizo software you use? Is it designed to check screen quality?
Thanks.

Re: LG IPS236V
Eyed one today. They seem like a good option for multi-monitor setups and are fast enough for most games. I did immediately notice the limited rearward tilt adjustment though. But that should not be a problem in a typical setup however. It's nice to see IPS screens with reasonable power consumption, even if the more power hungry ones tend to have even better colors.

Re: LG IPS236V
According to prad.de the maximum power consumption was 32.6W at 225cd/m2 and only 22.6W at 120 cd/m2. I think that's pretty cool.mkk wrote:It's nice to see IPS screens with reasonable power consumption, ...

Looks pretty good but what I really want to know is what gadgets/icon sets you used to make your desktop look so cool

I think they mean milliseconds. : PPrad.de recorded an average response time of 30.8 seconds
And of course they feel the need to place touch based controls on a piano black surface. That certainly isn't going to attract fingerprints. : / What's the point in using touch sensitive controls on a monitor, anyway? It certainly isn't for improved usability. Just hide some small tactile buttons along the side or something.Cov wrote:I find this silver thing close to the power LED ridiculous:!

Ok, let's see ...doveman wrote:... what I really want to know is what gadgets/icon sets you used to make your desktop look so cool.
Neon Gauges - System Info
Left hand side of the desktop:
Right hand side of the desktop:
1. Neon Gauges - System Info
You can customize them in so many ways, nicely designed and useful too.
Only disadvantage: you need to install Yahoo!Widgets application first, because they're non standard gadgets.
Developer is WidgetWorld, whom I sent an eMail to recently, praising them for their good looking gadgets.
I also suggested to add some more features for future release:
1. Temperatures for each CPU core and the GPU as well.
2. A radio gadget where the bars could represent 10 radio stations the user could assign to and select from.
3. A unique clock where each of the 10 bars represent 2.4 hours, or optional 24 bars where each bar represents 1 hour.
4. Two times 10 bars for stereo peak level indicators when music is playing in the background.
5. Weather forcast, 10 bars just showing the level of airpressure from low to high.
6. 10 bars as instant links, where a bar only lights up, if a link has been assigned to it.
They replied immediately. My suggestions were interesting and have been noted down, however they're not following up development of their Neon Widgets at the moment, but if they do, they'll develop them on a different platform than for Yahoo!Widgets.
If you decide to install them, then you will most likely notice, that the widget for the system volume will be stuck on 100% constantly.
Since the widgets were developed in 2007 / 08, there seem to be an incompatibility issue with Windows 7.
Hope they will be re-developed one day as standard gadgets. I'm not using them right now, as I notice that my system load seem to have gone up at idle, causing temperatures to rise unnecessarily.
Chameleon Glass gadgets
2. They are called Chameleon Glass gadgets
They are Windows standard gagdets and can be installed easily. If you like the clean and neat look, you will love them.
The radio gadget as part of this collection plays different styles of music from sky.fm but you can also add own stations.
They match perfecly together with a theme (visual style) like Glas Onion, which makes, for example, the corners of your windows sharp.
Other themes similar to Glass Onion are Relax and Nude II.
Neon Clock
3. Neon Clock has also been developed by WidgetWorld.
I think this one is very beautiful as well. You can adjust size, color, level of glow and more.
This gadget, unfortunately, requires you to install the Yahoo!Widgets application first.
Everest Ultimate
4. This is Everest Ultimate from Lavalys.
It's not so much of a beauty and does not offer any fancy gadgets but it displays straight forward system information.
You can customize size, color, font, label and more though.
Token
5. The icon set is called Token.
You can download them at DeviantArt. They come in a pack with sets of dark & light color.
Best thing I ever done to my system, to improve usabilty and looks.
Windows 7 Start Orb Changer
Oh, I almost forgot.
Change your boring standard orb with something else ► Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.
And last but not least, for all gadget lovers.
Look at these two gadgets, if you did not already know them anyway.
1. Metro Home
2. HTC Home beta

I agree with you.... Just hide some small tactile buttons along the side or something.
Samsung has shown how to place the complete set of buttons on the backside:
Samsung PX2370
It works great.
Re: LG IPS236V
You must think me terribly rude Cov, but I only just saw your reply as I didn't get notified of it for some reasonCov wrote:Ok, let's see ...doveman wrote:... what I really want to know is what gadgets/icon sets you used to make your desktop look so cool.
Anyway, thanks so much. I'm looking forward to making my desktop look as cool as yours

No, I don'tdoveman wrote:You must think me terribly rude Cov, ...
By the way, if anyone of you is interested in using visual styles, I would like to suggest looking at » this * « one.
I know it's a matter of taste (and you can't argue about taste), but I'm using this for the last few months now and still love it.
That's unusual for me because I get tired of things quick, but not this time.
* Clearscreen Sharp for Windows7
Please note that light glow in the taskbar as well as in the start menu. It appears when you hover over it with your mouse pointer.
It even follows you within that field, that looks so kewl.
Only thing that annoys me tremendously is the colour of the scroll bar (where I put a circle around). It's so damn hard to see sometimes.
