Those are the models that I can buy here in Argentina were I live and their respective local prices.
The card will be used most of the time in idle/2D.
If It's needed to adjust fan profile for "silent" operation it would be great that it can be done by a BIOS edit and not by software because the card will not be used with Windows and Linux.

If you can tell me the top 3 silent/less noisier ones that would be great. Also if you consider it is a better option to choose another chip like the GTX 460 please tell me, I have to make the card work on a Hackintosh system, but that's my problem.

Thanks in advance and waiting for your comments!

Greetings,
Karina

If you check out the following site (http://ht4u.net/reviews/2010/gesamtverg ... index4.php) you can get an idea of the noise on some cards, the "MSI R6850 Cyclone Power Edition [Silent Mode]" is pretty silent (it shows the noise when in idle so check the next two pages as well for noise under load when gaming and in furmark 1.65).

Though at this site the "MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II OC" is much more silent and should give more performance so I'd much rather recommend that.

Hi Bradshaw, thanks for you advice.

I'm considering the MSI Cyclone as a first option and the Sapphire 6580 ( non reference ) as a second option. The MSI R6870 Twin Frozr II looks good, but I haven't found it here, only the Hawk variant, but it cost almost one hundred dollars more, equaling the price for a 6950 and we weren't thinking on spending almost 400 $ on a card for using it almost all the time in 2D.

Greetings,
Karina
