Please help me choose between the Antec TruePower New 750w and the 750W Silverstone Strider Plus ST75F-P
Near silence at idle and while watching video is important to me. I don't mind if the fan is audible (within reason) at high load (gaming etc).
I've read the review on the TP-750.

I've got a Fractal R3, q9500s clocked at 3.6ghz, 8gb ram and a new HD6950 DCII 1GB.

My problem is drives. I currently have:
2 x 2TB F4EG Samsungs
2 x 1.5TB 7200.11 Seagates
1 x 1TB 7200.11 Seagate
1 x 150GB Raptor
1 x 128gb Crucial M4

My 430w Antec Neo-HE couldnt handle it. My 550w Vantec ION2+ makes more and more noise the more drives I have plugged in. I had to unplug my raptor to make it bearable.
I will even settle for less than 750w. I want something very silent that will sit fan down and play nice in my R3 that can handle my drives without going crazy.

If you want silence at idle and low loads, neither of those choices will deliver that. Perhaps you should consider either the Seasonic X-760 or the OEM (rebadged) version of it, the Corsair Pro Gold AX750. The Seasonic X-760 has a “Hybrid Silent Fan Control” feature which means that the fan does not even turn on until the PSU is loaded by at least 25%. So no fan noise at all except under gaming conditions. The main Pro Gold AX750/Seasonic X-760 difference is that the Corsair has some flat cables rather than round. The Corsair tends also to be slightly cheaper. Agreed both of these are expensive PSUs, but your original choices are quite pricey too.

I'd love to but unfortunately they are a bit over budget. Thats why I said "near silent" :) I should have mentioned I'm trying to keep my purchase to around AU$150 (~US$158)
The Seasonic X-760 is $230 and the Corsair PG AX750 is $220 here. The TP-750 and the Strider 750 are only $140. The TP-750 gets good reviews here, but I cant find a review on the fan noise for the Strider.

I have ~500rpm 120mm case fans and a Megahalems with 140mm vortex fan @~500rpm, plus my HD6950 DCII has two 80mm almost silent fans (which I cant hear at idle @ 1m) . So The PSU just has to be quieter than those at idle, fan down in an R3 case.

I've decided on the Silverstone ST75F-P

Its 80 Plus Silver, its the same price as my other choices (which are bronze) and all indications (pictures, reviews) seem to be that it is the same as the 850w and the 1000w internally (fans, structure, HS, etc). All reports on the higher wattage versions seem to indicate that the fan doesn't kick in audibly until very high in the watt range. I imagine this is because they are a silver rated series and waste less energy to heat.

Seeing no one seems to have any opinion on the Silverstone, I'll be the one to try it out.
