Has anyone had any success in using the original Scythe Ninja (not rev. b) with socket 1156?

You might have to try your luck with the Thermalright 1155/6 mounting kit.

Are you sure? A Scythe rep/forum mod and a user both said that the URK 3 won't work with socket 1155, so unless 1156 is significantly different...

It appears that rep backtracked on his advice?

The original Ninja uses clamp mounting and two mounting bars that were supplied with the CPU cooler.
The information that Scythe gave here is wrong: The problem with the the Scythe Universal Retention Kit 3 is that it doesn't support mounting bars. Hence it can't be used in conjunction with the Ninja, only with other coolers that I don't know..."

Yes, the original advice was incorrect hence the edit.

It might be useful to say that, according to Intel, the LGA1155/56 cooler mounting holes should be 75mm apart. If this is the same as the distance between the holes on the 775 metal mounting bar arms that came with the Ninja then an 1155/56 backplate could work. The Thermalright Socket 1156 Bolt-Thru-Kit Rev.B which costs around £4 (€4.5) here in the UK is probably the cheapest source of such a backplate.

The Asrock P67 motherboard also supports 775 mounting. That is, it has holes at both the 1155/1156 and 775 spacing.

My (so far just hypothetical) upgrade to i7 is this board plus my (ancient) Ninja 1000, possibly the best heat sink ever.

The 775 mounting holes mean that any push-pin type fitting will work. However 1155 motherboards have a CPU socket backplate which I think will interfere with 775 coolers that use a 775 backplate fitting, including I suspect the venerable Ninja 1000.

Hmm, after looking around some more, I finally found a photo of the back of this board on Newegg. It does indeed have a backplate that would interfere with the original Ninja backplate. Bummer. But maybe with longer bolts, or just some washers, all would be well...

The Noctua NM-13 fitting kit uses a backplate similar to Scythe's and it is suitable for 775 and 1155. This is achieved by a layer of rubber so that the Noctua backplate fits both over and around the 1155 backplate. The Noctua backplate is also notched to clear screws securing the 1155 backplate. I can't see any reason though why a simpler solution like washers should not work with the Scythe backplate provided the existing bolts are long enough, or some longer bolts can be found.

The very original Ninja used S478 mounting clips, and an adapter with the 775 socket. All things considered, knowing the back plate setup on the newer 1156 and 1155 boards, as well as even 1366, it would be difficult, if not impossible to make it work.

have bought scythe Ninja around 8 years ago, which was originally mounted on 939 socket;
recently i have decided to upgrade my PC, but to leave several parts from my old PC - PSU, GPU and Ninja cooler;
The problem was to figure out if it was possible to mount original Scythe ninja on 1155 socket;
Other components; motherboard - Gigabyte Z77x-UD3H; i5 - 3570K; 8Gb crucial ballistix; Antec P280; SSD Corsair 128 Gb GS

I have read many posts and searched for mounting clips that could possibly do the job; many of the posts are claiming its impossible to mount old Ninja on 1155; I`m using 1155/1156 Mugen 2 Conversion Kit, and as you will see it does the job, although the mounting process is a bit frustrating - you must do it upside down;
