PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
Hello all!
Im pretty new here as you can see.... i need you wise suggestion because im going to change PSU on my pc.
I was searching a silent one, modular and not very expensive.
i found a thermaltake toughpower xt 575W for 85€ here in italy but im not sure its so silent
do you have any suggestion for me? similar brands-models that can offer silence and modularity at a reasonable price ?
thanks in advance

Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
For PSUs, I like to play it on the safe side : pay a little more but get the best I can.
Check out the recommended list on SPCR !
The seasonics are very good (X-650 and the likes) and can be found online on sale for around $100

Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
unfortunately that is true only in USA.... in italy for example Seasonic 560W 80 Plus costs 130 € and this means 180$
Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
What are your requirements? by that, I mean your hardware setup.
In general, I'd suggest the Seasonic X-series or devirates from that serie. Corsair AX for example. Or Enermax Modu87. The Cooler Master Silent Pro M is also modular but perhaps a tad too noisy. 14 dBa/1m. Then there are all the passive ones.

As already said by kuzzia, it depends of your power requirements (and actual case).marco79 wrote:I was searching a silent one, modular and not very expensive.
As example, up to 200W DC: http://www.bpm-power.com/it/product/8779/
Always as example, up to 400W DC: http://www.prokoo.com/enermax-modu87-em ... -3786.html
For more than 400W DC of continuative (real) load you cannot have silence and modular cabling for (relatively) cheap (IMO): Seasonic X-series is far higher than 85 euros + 20% (the price range I assumed you may accept, due to the Thermaltake example).
Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
actually i have a dualcore E8400, ATI HD 5770 vapor-x, 3 disks, 1 dvd-burner , 4 fans 80x80 and a couple of PCI cards
but i want to buy one in view of the future platform upgrade next year when i will go for a new I7 or new ADM bulldozer
so i suppose minimum should be 450W
the most importat point for me is silence, not modularity at the end.

I have it in a small server: it's perfectly adequate to an E8400 or an i7 (Sandy Bridge).
With the Bulldozer, YMMV (far higher power consumption on load than Intel, if you look at Llano or Thuban).

Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
I just bought a BeQuiet Pure Power 300W supply. They have also supplies with larger power. They get very good reviews here in the Netherlands, and are inaudible. 80plus certified and 40 euro.

425W will be enough? if next year i change video card with a more powerful and consuming i dont want to but another PSU...quest_for_silence wrote:marco79 wrote:the most importat point for me is silence, not modularity at the end.

I would ask if it we'll be enough quiet. That 425W up to 300W DC should be quiet (but it depends also on the case: the PSU intake temp matters).
You have to do some math (or buy an energy meter): just for example, a 2500K with P67 and 5450 (and 1 drive) would go for 90-100W DC at around 4GHz (SPCR test, IIRC).
Your 5770 goes for around 80W DC when gaming. So a gross amount of 155-165W DC, plus the two more drives and the PCI cards (another 40W DC when gaming, to be at large?).
But you have a 775, which is less efficient: according to SPCR a P45 and QX9650 with 1 drive and a 9400GT goes for 140W DC. I think your E8400 should absorb a tad less (not to mention the Nvidia pays a +15W premium over the above mentioned 5450).
IMO/IME you should account for around 200-220W DC, currently, when stress-testing (Prime95+FurMark), and therefore something less when gaming (for the 3GHz 125W QX9650, the difference is 15-30W less, depending of the application).
marco79 wrote:i was thiking more to a 500W
It depends of which card are you looking at: with reference to your 5770, an average 6970 would add about 150W DC to your actual peak DC power consumption (when stress testing), a 6950 would add around 80W DC more, a 6870 maybe 55W DC, a 6850 just 25W DC more. And so on: eventually, if you look for an ASUS Mars II, you would need probably 630W more.
So, IMHO the 425W should handle quietly up to a 6950, at first sight, when stress testing (Prime95+FurMark).
Above it, there's the already pointed out Enermax 87+ 500W at around 105 euros, to be safe and quiet.
But if you're talking about real loads (gaming), then I think the 425W is (or should be) still enough (but for the most powerful video cards, check twice the max required amperage and the number of needed connectors).
Re: PSU Suggestion : modular and silent
Enermax 87+ 500W looks to be perfect, modular powerful and silent.
thanks, i'll try to search it around europe to see if i can get it at a lower price.
