Thanks,

the new linux client enabled me to add a couple of 8-core Ubuntu machines. They seem pretty quick. I tried one with -bigadv but it took a long time and didn't produce that much points. Regular big, experimental jobs seem to produce more points at least on this hardware.

Hey what 9M, when did that happen! :-)
Thanks cordis, I've got some new hardware, spent rather more than intended but...
An i7-2600K OC'd on bigadv definitly does the business, the GTX560Ti helps too.
Been very busy and not got it all sorted out properly yet nor good enough coolers.
I *need* a NH-C14 but it's so expensive :( and I want PWM fans for it :( :(
Still the new Twin Turbo II cooler looks ideal for the 560Ti and isn't so expensive. Maybe should experiment a bit further with the replacement 80mm fans I've got on it and BIOS fan speed mod, might be tolerable :)
In my playing around I did have briefly a setup that was, I think, capable of over 50,000ppd, and 560w AC and very (very) loud - will write it up when I get a minute.
I think will and up around the 30K ppd mark with quiet sustainable OC, we'll see.

PS - SSDs rock 8)
Thanks, Seb

Nice work, SebRad. You've inspired me to give bigadv WUs another try.

cmh, if it helps encourage you "FAHSpy" is currently reporting my i7-2600k @ 28,000ppd!
That's with "bigadv" for which, I believe, you *have* to have 8 or more threads in your box...
[I read you can run in an 8 core virtual machine on a hex core CPU and works, as long as fast enough]

It is clocked at 4.7GHz and seeing temps 75~80°C with the CPU cooler flat out :!:
Compared to my previous box incarnation where it could fold CPU+GPU inaudibly it's terrible :(
Not even as if the Freezer 13, the 92mm fan one, not the 120mm Pro as won't fit my case, is a bad cooler

Better CPU cooler and less over-clock needed...
Then I can worry about the GTX560Ti... (13K ppd) I love it really :D

Regards, Seb

I'm 57 frames into a 2684, at about 39 minutes a frame. Would be 30Kish PPD, if Windows Update hadn't knocked it offline for six hours last night. Grr. I'm OC'd to 4.2 GHz, with the GTX560 running too, OC'd to 910 MHz. Temps between 65 and 70C on both the CPU and GPU. If this bigadv WU doesn't make the bonus deadline I'm gonna cry...

Oh yeah, always set windows to update only when you ok it, otherwise things can go sideways. You may want to shut down the gpu folding if you get close to the deadline. It does sap a little cpu to keep going. I usually run on one less core when I run gpus and bigadv on the same system. It keeps things a little more stable. But your mileage may vary, of course.

And SebRad, are you running on windows? Your bigadv ppd seems a little low, I'm running a 2600k at about the same overclock, but it's on ubuntu and it's not doing gpu, but it's getting around 39K ppd on a 2684 (around 31m38s per frame). You may definitely want to try a "-cpu 7" setting if you're doing gpu folding, see if that doesn't kick things up. The 2684 is the slowest WU you can get, on more normal WUs it gets into the 40k range. It may be that FahSpy isn't calculating the bonus correctly, you may want to compare the points it predicts that you'll get compared to what you're actually getting, and see if it isn't higher. I use HFM.net for estimates, it's usually pretty close.

Thank you, doing my best to get some stable folding doing on, while trying to finalize my backup solution on my HTPC/Backup/folder and seeing if I can further reduce the noise (already pretty good, but this is SPCR ;) )
