2600K + HR-02
Does anyone have, and/or recommend a 2600K + HR-02 (Thermalright)?

Re: 2600K + HR-02
Hello Jim & welcome to SPCR,
I don't think there is any question that the HR-02 can cool the 2600K well; assuming that it has a compatible mounting. What case and motherboard are you using?

That particular combo has been proven to work well:

They put a Scythe PWM on the heatsink.

My setup looks like the following...
I want to put a passive heatsink on my 2600K, the Thermalright HR-02, is the only succesful one I know so far. Hence, my goal is to make a quiet PC.
Case: LIAN LI PC-A05NA Silver Aluminum ATX Mini Tower

Power Supply: Kingwin 500W 80 PLUS Platinum Certified Fanless

Graphics Card: GTX 580

Motherboard: Intel 1155

SSD: Intel 120GB Sata III
Ram: G.Skill 1600

Re: 2600K + HR-02
No sense in going expensive passive power supply and passive heat sink with a blower style GTX 580, that will hands down be your main source of noise. Go for a X-560 and strap a fan to the heat sink as others have been saying.
Hopefully Quest for Silence chimes in because he is always recommending this case and I suspect knows a lot about it but I think you will have pretty bad heat issues with a passive setup and a blower design. May have to make some modifications in order to pull it off like changing the airflow direction and upgrading the fans. This may not be the case to use without modification for such high end, heat producing components, especially if you are overclocking the 2600K.
Just my 2C

Agreed. Do you know how the suggested GTX 580 performs acoustically? If it performs bad, then all the attemps to run things passively makes absolutely no sense.PMcG wrote:No sense in going expensive passive power supply and passive heat sink with a blower style GTX 580, that will hands down be your main source of noise.

Many people say the 580 is quiet, according to reviews. However, quiet is too general a term to describe.
If I'm going to have poor air flow, then what do you suggest? Which case do you suggest? Also, which graphics card would you suggest?
Are the Noctua heatsinks quiet? How are the Thermalright heatsinks with fans?
Would just switching the 580 make a difference?
For instance this one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... llFullInfo
