DH61DL vs. DH61AG power test ... and G620 vs G620T

Post by tramall » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:47 pm

As promised . Low power showdown :

Intel DH61DL vs Intel DH61AG

Both boards had default bios settings , all power saving features on.
Clean copy of Windows Professional 32-bit installed . No other software , codecs , nothing . Only required drivers.
Everything installed on Toshiba MK2576GSX 2,5inch HDD (both mainboards)
Same Pentium G620 processor
Same power meter and same socket in the wall :).

DH61DL:
Kingston KVR1333D3S8N9/2G 2GB memory
PicoPSU 90W (normal version , not this new energy saving version)
MeanWell GS90A12-P1M 12V 6.67A 80W power brick.

DH61AG
2 x 1GB random so-dim sticks
Dell PA-3E power brick (model DA90PE1-00)

Software:
Hd content: avatar trailer (mov , 1920x1080)
LinX (Problem size 10000 , memory 772MB)

Results:

DH61DL
Idle : 12W-14W (stayed on 12W most of the time) / G620T : 13W-14W
HD movie: 17-18W / G620T : 18W
LinX: 41W-42W / G620T : 36-37W

DH61AG
Idle : 16W-20W (stayed on 19W most of the time)
HD movie: 20-21W (90% of the time was 20W firm)
LinX: 48W-50W (48W most of the time)

Winner is clear for me. But I am almost 100% certain that main factor is the power brick . MeanWell GS90 is professional (read expensive) power brick designed for 24/7 use. I know nothing about dell’s power brick , interesting fact is that is a 19,5V power brick and Intel board is rated 19V . There is a chance I get my hands on 19V version of MeanWell power brick .
But this is all for now. Just wanted to thank my sponsor : http://www.get-solid.pl for providing both motherboards and cpu.

Stay tuned for G620T vs. G620 comparison.

Update : Installed G620T into DH61DL setup , results above . Idle and HD playback similar , LinX visible difference but less processing power... and 1U compatible stock heatsink.

PS. My overall conclusion : I sold AMD Brazos board.

Thanks for sharing your results, its nice to see another DH61DL around getting great power readings. The funny thing i got mine out of the DH67CFB3 was out of stock... but at the end turn out to be a real winner, not only it has very good power consumption, but the DH67CFB3 has a chip on back on the mobo that might not allow to mount the bracket of the HR02.

Looking foward to Meanwell if you manage to get a hold on. I agree with your in terms of the bricks plays a good part on the power consumption. I might build a HTPC for a friend, thinking on the DH61AG for space restrictions with G620T, but the brick that its drawing my attention atm is the one from JonnyGuru picoPSU roundup, FSP120-AAB, with remarks like
JonnyGuru Reviews - Pico PSU Round Up wrote:the FSP power brick shows that it's the best power brick

It looks like the FSP has scored yet another jonnyGURU Recommended award. It seems like, wherever you can use a +19V power brick, even if you can use a +12V power brick instead, the FSP is the power brick of choice.
I searched for a while before when i was doing my minimi build, but settle for 150XT for more simple, but from i was searching i found the following link that i think (not sure) its the same brick as JonnyGuru Review, Replacement Fujitus FSP120-AAB Power Supply Charger AC Adapter 19v 6.3a

Looking foward to it.

Thanks for posting your results but...

It would be nice to mention the meter you used and the voltage you get from your wall next time. Relative values are useful anyway but the details are easy enough to write down and could be useful some day.
